If you are here for fun and entertainment, or for specialty Copper River sockeye salmon products, you have come to the right place. We place a high value on fun. And on good, healthful wild salmon. Skip to near the end of this long page if you just want to order the Flopping Fresh Fish Company's specialty sockeye salmon products and Giftpacks. Even if you have arrived here by mistake, you might as well hang around and check out the Flopping Fresh Fish Company's story and stories. Then you can resume your search for "fishnet stockings" or whatever brought you here having spent at least some time on socially acceptable frivolity. If you are in northwest Washington, you can find some of our products on the shelves of Bellingham's Community Food Co-operative or Everybody's Store in Van Zandt, WA, out past Deming.
Capt. Buck Meloy and friend The Copper River salmon season begins (began) this May. Captain Buck will again be catching the prized, wild Copper River sockeye and preparing them for his Flopping Fresh Fish Company affishionados. Once the season is over, Captain Buck will dust off the old Smith-Corona, to share with you a peek at what goes on in his peculiar world. In the meantime, you can still read last year's stories:

A Family Tradition since 1932 PRODUCTS - If it can be done to a freshwater fish Stoller Fisheries can do it for you.
Stoller Fisheries specializes in fish products from freshwater fish, and all of its products are kosher under supervision from Star-K. Stoller Fisheries operates under HACCP and has been assigned an export approval number from the United States Food and Drug Administration. Stoller Fisheries also produces a full line of fish caviars, commercial baits, byproducts from fish waste, and engages in custom processing.
Feature 1:
PLATE-FROZEN FISH BLOCKS The supply of plate-frozen fish blocks from either mechanically deboned (minced) fish and small filets is becoming more and more scarce from traditionally species such as COD. Stoller Fisheries is investigating the installation of a plate freezer to plate freeze blocks of filets and mechanically deboned fish from under utilized species of fresh water fish such as carp, buffalo fish, fresh water sheep head, and fresh water suckers. Custom processing is available.
Feature 2:
SOUP BASES AND FISH STOCKS
As a primary processor Stoller Fisheries is capable of mincing (mechanically deboning) up to 60,000 pounds of under utilized species of fresh water fish daily. These fish include the common carp, buffalo fish, fresh water sheep head (drum), fresh water sucker (also known as the fresh water mullet) and many other species. The company can also mechanically debone salmon and ocean species. There is a growing demand for minced fish to be used as dehydrated soup bases and as fish stocks and Stoller Fisheries can custom process these fish for your needs. Please direct your inquiry to either Tom Opheim or Larry Stoller.

FISH FOR ALL SUMMIT The CGIAR centre, ICLARM, has relaunched itself as the World Fish Center at an international Summit "Fish for All" in Penang, Malaysia.
Penang, 3 November 2002 Statement by Patrick Mulvany, ITDG ITDG thanks the organisers of this Summit for inviting us. Also, we appreciate the dedication of everyone here in the hall to the goals of " fish for all and forever ". Chair: I thank you for an opportunity to make a brief comment. ITDG is proud to have had many decades of work with fisherfolk around the world and especially to have known and worked with Dr John Kurien and the fisherfolk of south India, whose efforts to restore the marine biodiversity of their seas, we salute. The issues seem to be clear as many speakers have already described and will say: Developed (northern) food and fishing industry's dominance of global fisheries and aquaculture will increase:
  • Unjust fisheries agreements with southern developing countries proliferate with huge impacts on common property resources e.g. Chile, W Africa. Massive subsidies to northern fishing fleets and fishing effort, often hidden by reflagging of Northern fishing boats to developing country fleets.

EUROPEAN INLAND FISHERIES ADVISORY COMMISSION Twentieth Session Praia do Carvoeiro, Portugal, 23 June - 1 July 1998 PROGRESS REPORT, SUBCOMMISSION III
This Progress Report was prepared following the request of 12 February 1998 by the EIFAC Secretariat. It covers the intersessional activities carried out within Sub-Commission III since May 1996. Items follow the sequence given in FAO Fisheries Report No. 541 (FIPL/R541) reporting on the 19th Session of EIFAC in Dublin, 1996. 1. Influence of management practices on the environment The objectives of the working party, as it was defined by EIFAC in 1990, are the collection of information on the modes in which fisheries management can contribute to the amelioration of the aquatic environment, and an analysis of how appropriate management of fisheries and aquaculture can be used to maintain/improve the quality of the aquatic environment. The working party was intended to work primarily by correspondence, at least in the beginning. After repeated difficulties and considerable delay in finding a Convenor for this Woking Party, Miran W. Aprahamian (United Kingdom) agreed to accept this task in October 1997.

There is increasing pressure on the aquaculture and fishing industries to develop and adopt sustainable practices and much of the School's research is targeted at contributing to this process. Aquaculture research covers topics such as sustainable production techniques for marine and freshwaer finfish, fish nutrition, pond management, and aquaculture genetics and selective breeding. A $2 million grant has recently been secured to establish state of the art recirculating systems on the Warrnambool campus to support research into intensive production techniques for Murray cod and other Australian species.

(PDF Version) To send feedback or inquiries directly to the person responsible for this Web site, click here. Jones Hole National Fish Hatchery was established in 1956 under Section 8 of the Colorado River Storage Project Act, and produced it's first trout in 1970. Located on 390 acres in a beautiful sandstone geologic setting, the hatchery provides management and production of trout for mitigation of Colorado River Storage Project waters of the Upper Colorado River System and to meet Tribal trust responsibilities on Native American land. As the natural aquatic habitat changes from natural (drought, flood, habitat destruction) or human (over-harvest, pollution, habitat loss due to development and dam construction) influences, the natural production of fish declines. Stocking of fish is one of the many management strategies used by biologists to help replenish the populations for years to come. Last revised 7/23/2002 Home Species Production Distribution ...
