Full review Q: How many Frenchman does it take to change a light bulb? A: One.Chirac.He holds the bulb and all of Europe revolves around him. As Lindford Christie would say,' I just waited for the P in Paris'...But it didn't happen and we were all very surprised indeed when the I.O.C president said 'London'. Whether its was for geo political reasons-three of the bidding countries: America, Spain and the UK, stole Frances oil interests in Iraq, or the fact we trumped the French with Beckham,the man old enough to remember Seb Coe running bare foot? , the 'Mighty Atom'- Lord Coe, has once again delivered Olympic glory. Admittedly world class sports events like this are far sexier when they are in hot and glamorous countries with some sort of time gap to pump the atmosphere. Yes it will be expensive and the fact the same company that built Wembley Stadium did it ten times cheaper for a similar Olympic stadia project in Sydney, may suggest costs will rockets as 'preferred' bidders, loyal to the government of the day get the lucrative construction projects.

Heikinpäivä 2002 filled with firsts and fun
HANCOCK Hancock was filled with a flurry of Finnish fun as the fourth annual Heikinpäivä Festival once again celebrated the area's Finnish heritage Jan. 18 - 19. Anything but "Same old, same old," this year's festival featured several firsts the grand opening of the first-ever lumitalo , or snow house, in the United States, the Gizmo museum and the Finnish cooking and birch bark weaving classes. These firsts, combined with a line-up of old festival favorites made this year's festival bigger and better than ever. Some of the hundreds of visitors to the lumitalo check out the murals depicting scenes from Finland's epic poem, the Kalevala , which decorated the snow structure. The murals were painted by students from Hancock High School. "It's great," exclaimed Kate Remlinger, a visitor to Heikinpäivä from Spring Lake, Mich. "It's such a good way to bring the culture and heritage alive and to bring the people out in the winter."

The gastronomic peak of the summer is the start of the crayfish season on July 21. The Finns appreciate fine cuisine, but consume it in moderation. Gastronomic delights and healthy habits go hand in hand. This new millennium is expected to bring a renewed acceptance of epicureanism, the quest for gourmet experiences. Along with the new thinking, traditional foods such as sausage are still popular. But the sausage has changed: it is meatier and tastier than ever. The animal fat in sausage is replaced often with healthier vegetable fats, and enriched with ingredients that have beneficial health effects. One such additive is pine bark flour, produced in the context of a project supported by the EU.
