Book Arts Jam
Book Arts Jam: Special Edition is coming to Foothill College in Los Altos Hills on Saturday, October 15, 2005 the program will run from 10 am to 4 pm. Visitors will be able to take a close, hands-on look at artist's books, watch demonstrations of bookbinding, paper decorating, leather working and join us for a "behind-the-scenes" look at the creative processes, tools, and techniques that are used by book artists. This year, Book Arts Jam: Special Edition invites book arts aficionados as well as artists and audiences new to book arts to participate in creating their own books: folded, stamped, edible and otherwise. The event is free. Book Arts Jam: Special Edition will also present panel discussions on topics ranging from collaboration to printmaking for the arts. The Foothill College printmaking studio will be open and busy with volunteers demonstrating a variety of printmaking techniques. And a special display of mail art will showcase projects that engage participants from around the world.
Exhibition
The exhibition - Stories, Stars and Structures - will showcase works produced by BABA members. The majority will be artist's books: that is, art expressed in book form, rather than books about art. In these artworks, the artists will have selected their text, images, format, and materials to embody their artistic intent. Viewers will be able to handle all but the most fragile of the books. There will also be a section of the exhibit dedicated to displaying the wide variety of structures or forms books can take. Today's artists have both historical structures, such as scrolls, accordion folds, and Coptic stitch bindings, and modern structures, such as buttonhole and flag books, caterpillar stitch at their disposal

I travel around China searching for the best artists and artwork that Asia has to offer. I work hard to bring you only the best quality art that I can find. You might expect to pay a lot for such great hand-painted art, but we give you the "locals only" price. Just a fraction of what you would at a gallery.
Sandy is the other half of this business partnership. While I travel, she stays busy in Beijing (Peking) packing and shipping orders for you. She has connections and expertise in the art world of China through her previous work in art galleries, and her uncle who is a famous artist in China.
