Advantages of Super 8 Filmmaking:
More than Nostalgia by Tisha Stima from the Boston Film and Video Foundation It’s safe to say that consumers are generally more interested in cost and speedy results than image quality. However, for an amateur filmmaker, Super 8 is perhaps the easiest and most economical way to make films — real films with texture. Reflected light gives Super 8 film a softer quality than video, making it especially effective as "lyrical B-roll," according to Tim Wright. John Cannizzaro, a Vermont native and Super 8 filmmaker comments, "You can shoot video all day and not spend over ten dollars. However, [when working with Super 8] I have to choose shots, spend more time on shots, really think about what I’m doing and why." So, there’s much more to Super 8 than nostalgia. Fast , was screened internationally at film festivals, finds Super 8 to be perfectly inconspicuous, convenient methods for guerrilla filmmaking. The equipment Working with Super 8 is not without its disadvantages, however. Perhaps the biggest drawback is sound recording. Super 8 sound film is nearly impossible to find these days, and Kodak no longer produces sound film. However, despite, (or rather because of) the non-sync sound problems encountered when shooting in Super 8 Tim Wright loves teaching with it "because it enables students to recapitulate the history of filmmaking."

The Making of "VAMPIRE": a film for BBC's Wildlife On One by Adrian Warren..page 1 of 6 Main Article Page [page 1] page 2 page 3 ... next page The Making of "VAMPIRE": a film for BBC's Wildlife On One, 1979 by Adrian Warren Desmodus feeding on a donkey It is curious that the vampire myth, even today, continues to hold public imagination. Count Dracula has appeared in over two hundred films from at least ten countries, as well as in plays, books, comics and on television. Bram Stoker's novel "Dracula" has never been out of print, and commercial merchandising includes package holidays to Dracula's castle in Rumania led by an "occult"guide. The story source for Stoker's novel was said to be Vlad Dracul, a 15th century ruler of the Transylvanian province of Wallachia. He apparently had over 23,000 people impaled on wooden stakes, and used to eat his meals while watching their agony. He was a sadist, and a mass murderer, yes, but no vampire. There was a vampire woman, however: an Austrian Countess - Elizabeth Bathony, a society beauty of the Imperial Court. As her looks faded with age, she imagined that the blood of young girls might keep her youthful and, over a period of 15 years, murdered some 600 of them in torture chambers of remote Carpathian castles, draining them of their blood for the sake of her vanity. Her accomplices were sent to the stake in 1611 but because of her high birth she was walled up in her chambers with a hole for air and food. She died three years later.

It is the half shades, the hardly audible notes that I want to capture and explore. In any case, I am another kind of person, one who finds muted emotions more interesting and challenging." Insightful views from the inimitable Satyajit Ray, filmaker.

Facts, Faith, and Film-Making:
Jesus’ Passion and Its Portrayal
A Study Guide for Viewers and Reviewers
This guide is intended for anyone who sees or hears a portrayal of Jesus’ Passion – the suffering Jesus underwent in the final hours of his life, when he was arrested, condemned, and crucified. To understand the Passion, you do not need special training or advanced learning; nor will you need them for this guide. We offer you some background on the challenges of telling the Passion story, as well as some hints for how to hear or watch it. The Passion story has a long history. For Christians, it is a source of life and salvation. For Jews, it has led to condemnation and violent attacks. It is Jesus’ Passion, but it also brings out passion (strong feeling) in those who hear and view it. That passion should be directed to living in the way Jesus taught and should never again be directed against Jews as a group or individually. The Christian Scholars Group

Seagate and Spectrum Films achieve movie-making success
Storage system stands up to the demands of flourishing post-production facility
Since its establishment in 1964, Spectrum Films has grown to be one of Australia's largest post-production facilities. Based at Fox Studios in Sydney, the company provides film editing equipment and technical support for both local and international projects. In recent years, Seagate's hard drive technology has become a critical part of these projects, which have included major motion pictures 'The Matrix' and 'Mission: Impossible-II', as well as the popular television series, 'Farscape.'
Spectrum Films facility manager, Mike Honey The pace at which projects are completed is vital to Spectrum Films' success. Prior to the introduction of disk-based technology in the mid-1980s, post-production techniques employed at the facility were limited by the sprocket-based editing machines of the day, such as the German-made Steenbecks. These machines only allowed for sequential editing on film. Since then, a digital breakthrough in disk-based storage technology has occurred, allowing for audio and visual data to be written and retrieved at greater speeds, using non-linear editing methods.
