If a movie is action captured at 24 frames a second, then animation is 24 still frames made up to produce a second of action. Due to a phenomenon known as 'persistence of vision' (where our eyes retain images for a tenth of a second) the individual images have the illusion of movement, and animators can bring objects to life. Animation allows film-makers to tell fantastical stories. Stop motion animation has been in use since the birth of film-making, from special effects pioneer Georges Melies Voyage to the Moon (1902), through Ray Harryhausen's arm of marauding skeletons in Jason and the Argonauts Chicken Run If you have big ideas and a small budget animation is an excellent method of telling your stories. Peter Jackson , director of the multi-million dollar Lord of the Rings trilogy, started out producing stop motion animation in his bedroom. Creating animation doesn't require a crew of thousands armed with walkie-talkies or a convoy of teamsters to move your production. Equipped with a cine camera, modelling clay and a quiet working space you can produce your own animated films.

Kids Making Animation:
A Sampling of Children's Animation Workshops Around the World
Compiled by Wendy Jackson Across the globe, there are pioneering people sharing their love for the art and craft of animation through teaching children. Some workshops are affiliated with the ASIFA International Children's Workshop initiative, while others are run independently of any other groups. From cameraless techniques such as Zoetropes and drawing on film, to drawn, cutout and model animation, these workshops have one thing in common: they teach children to understand abstract concepts of time, movement and design, while giving them an opportunity to express themselves creatively. Here are profiles of what some teachers are doing.
Zoetrope strips made by children in Israel. Carousel, Tel-Aviv, Israel
Eitan Oded heads up this workshop, which finds its home base "all over the country," with funding derived from "school budgets, parents, and educational funds." This independent workshop is designed for children ages 6-17. Oded reports that, he's "a computer systems analyzer, freelance journalist, interior and graphic designer, and a teacher of animation, art and photography."
"Carousel," Oded notes, is a "one-time animation workshop, aimed at giving the inexperienced participant the basic experience of creating a short animation film. I don't need any special preparation to do the workshop, but I can start at once. I use a big Zoetrope to show the animations, and we usually record the short films on video as well.

As the shoot day grew closer, Rosa felt he needed more than a conventional "shot list" to keep the shoot day as tight as possible. "I started realizing that I needed a tight plan for actor placement, or shooting could get out of control. Since everyone was donating their time, I definitely wanted the shoot to be as smooth and fun as possible."

Film makers gather audience online to pressure distributors
Nobody Wants Your Film is a website for an independant film about the making of an independant film... the film is not due for release and so they are taking registrations online to put together evidence of audience to take to distributors to get a release!
I registered, despite a really counter-intuitive user interface which makes it really hard to navigate this site. Nonetheless, interesting concept and those interested will probably battle through the bad navigation system to the registration form regardless.
So, does the film look any good? Not sure - two of the three clips on the initial pages were quite interesting. Just enough that I would go and see the film which claims to be an insight into the making of movies in Hollywood, both on set and behind the scenes with the money men... posted by frankp at 11:39 AM Email this to a friend

35. History Of Japanese Animation:part One
In Europe, Emile Reynaud and others were making animation as a result of research This film was also the first fullscale all talkie animation in Japan.
http://www.quilts-club.com/animation/japanese1.html
History of Japanese Animation:part one
Up to 1945.
In Europe, Emile Reynaud and others were making animation as a result of research of the "movie" before inventing a movie. The same trials as its were performed also in our country. For example, they are KAGEE, NOZOKIE, SOUMATOU and UTSUSHIE, etc. Especially UTSUSHI was widely loved by peoples Edo in the city as a feature of the variety halls. The effect of motion and picture of UTSUSHIE, it was comparable to the experiment of Reynaud's. UTSUSHIE was also a non-movie as the Reynaud's was a non-movie. Birth of the true animation in our country had to wait for the appearance of the so-called "DEKOBOUSIINGACHOU" series which compiled the works of J.R.Bray, Raul Barre and others.
It is influenced by the animations of the foreign countries released one after another, a cartoonist Outen Shimokawa would begin making animation in 1917. By the method of drawing on a blackboard with chalk at first, after this method went wrong, the blank paper which printed the background was used. The film done using the method of smearing away the place where a background overlaps a person with white paints was "IMOKAWA MUKUZOU:GENKANBAN NO MAKI(Doorkeeper)" (17). It is said that this is the first animation in our country.
In a same year, a cartoonist Jun-iti Kouuchi has released "HANAHEKONAI MEITOU NO MAKI(The Fine Sword)"(17) and also Seitarou Kitayama(titler of the major movie campany NIKKATSU) has released "SARUKANI GASSENN(Battle of Apes and Crabs)"(17). It seems that Kouuchi's film obtained the best evaluation in three, and it is said that Kitayama was contained in work from the previous year. So, probably, it should consider as the pioneer of the animation of our country with three persons of SHIMOKAWA and KOUUCHI and KITAYAMA.

We have the technology - YOU have the talent!
The technology is here today for you to produce your full length features using video! In recent years the production of independent films and videos has greatly increased due to many contributing technologies. The internet has allowed the independent producer the opportunity to achieve broad distribution of their product for little or no cost. This is the same phenomenon that created the buzz which launched “The Blair Witch Project” into commercial success and have given many small-town bands widespread exposure through web radio and MP3s. Faster access in homes throughout the country will soon allow the same broadband distribution of video and an independent producer will not only be able to create a buzz for their production, they will actually be able to distribute it right into our homes. There are many new technologies making this broadband distribution a reality. DV camcorders, decks, and non-linear editing systems have brought the ability to create high quality final productions at a fraction of the cost of a similar system just 2 years ago. In fact, this new format is so popular that major studios are now supporting DV production and the Sundance Film Festival has received about three times as many digital entries this year compared to previous years!
