Syracuse University's Olympic sports were the most televised in The BIG EAST Conference during the 2001-02 seasons. SU had seven sports broadcast a total of 21 times by Time Warner Cable of Syracuse. Rutgers also had seven different sports on television during the 2001-02 season. Syracuse was the only school in the BIG EAST to have volleyball and field hockey contests broadcast on television. Last season, he guided the Highlanders to their first undefeated Conference record (6-0 NorPac East) in school history and a perfect 6-0 record at home. In 2003, he led RU to its first appearance in the 2003 NorPac Championship Game in just their third season in the Conference. It marked the first East Division team to ever reach the Championship game and remains the only East squad to play for the Championship. In their four seasons in the NorPac, Radford has posted a 16-7 record and won the regular season East Division title twice.
After playing an instrumental role in Radford joining the NorPac in 2001, he guided them to the Championship game in 2003 and a 2002 East Division Title. It was the first NorPac title in school history, and the Highlanders did so in just their second season. They would go on to finish third in the 2002 NorPac Championships, finishing the season 9-11, their best finish since 1996.
In their inaugural season, he guided the Highlanders to an 8-15 overall and 3-3 conference record, tying for second place in the East division. Two of his players, Tessa Brookes and Brooke Peterson, were named to the All-Conference first and second teams respectively. Peterson also garnered all-tournament honors.
Woods picked up his first NorPac win on Sept. 9, 2001 in their inaugural game, defeating Appalachian State, 2-1 at home. RU also won the consolation championship at their first tournament with another 2-1 victory over ASU.

About Field Hockey
One of the world's most popular games, field hockey is also one of the world's oldest competitive team sports. Evidence of games played with a ball and stick date back over 4,000 years to the Nile Valley Egypt, and similar games were played by civilizations ranging from the Greeks and Romans to the Ethiopians and Aztecs. The modern game of field hockey evolved in England during the 19th century and led to the creation of the sport's international federation, the Fédération Internationale de Hockey (FIH ) in 1924. After Constance Applebee introduced the sport to the United States in 1901, the United States Field Hockey Association was formed in 1922. The Olympic Games included men's field hockey on the official program for the first time in 1908, and women's field hockey earned a spot on the program in 1980. In most countries, especially those in which ice hockey is not very prominent, it is simply known as hockey Field hockey has several regular, prestigious international tournaments for both men and women such as the Olympic Games , the quadrennial World Hockey Cups , the annual Champions Trophies , and World Cups for juniors. Indian and Pakistani national teams have traditionally dominated men's hockey, but have become less prominent recently, with The Netherlands Germany and Australia gaining importance in the late 1980s. The Netherlands was the predominant international women's team before hockey was added to Olympic events. In the early 1990s Australia emerged as the strongest women's country, though retirement of a number of key players has weakened the team. Other important women teams are China Korea Argentina and Germany. Many countries have extensive club competitions for both junior and senior players. Despite the large numbers of participants, club hockey is not a particularly large spectator sport and few players can afford to play professionally. In the

H ome Field Hockey The Game ( About Rules Improve History ... Commercial The game of field hockey is played on a rectangular field which is 100 yards (91.4 m) long and 60 yards (55 m) wide and is divided by a center line and a 25 yard line in each half of the field . The game is played on both grass fields and on watered down artificial turf (astro) although, for serious play, only astro is used because it is totally flat and obviously far faster than grass. The goal cages are 4 yards/12 feet (3.66 m) wide and 7 feet (2.13 m) high and there is a striking circle measured out 16 yards from each goal post. This striking circle (semi-circle) is also known as 'the circle' or the 'D' and a goal can only be scored from a shot taken within this semi-circle. The ball cannot be lifted into the circle but must be brought in on the ground.

Hockey has been retained on the programme for the 2012 London Olympic Games after a vote by International Olympic Committee members in Singapore today.
The 117th IOC Session voted to include 26 of the 28 current Olympic sports on the programme, with baseball and softball excluded for 2012. These two sports will remain an Olympic Sport however and are eligible for inclusion in the programme of the 2016 Games.
These two sports failed to win a majority of votes by IOC members and have become the first sports to be dropped from the Olympic Programme since polo in 1936.

Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) Message on Summer Olympic Sport Plan - Chris Rudge, CEO, COC 17 March 2005 Summer Olympic Sport Plan
There have been many questions from the sport community and media as to what the plan is for high performance summer sport in Canada in light of the Own the Podium - 2010 program (OTP) and the increased funding for winter sport leading up to Vancouver 2010.
Let me first provide some background observations. Sport has struggled for many years with significant under funding in Canada, particularly from the federal government. Recently, there has been a confluence of events and activities which are changing the way high performance sport, our athletes, coaches and NSF's, and their needs are perceived. The sport community in general: COC, athletes, coaches organizations, NSF's, Sport Matters, and Athletes Can, have been lobbying more frequently in Ottawa with a consistent message and a united voice. This is extremely important as we move forward.

L ike academic researchers and most doctors, athletes have become specialists. Kids pick a sport earlier than ever and spend more time pursuing it. With all this additional coaching and training, competition at professional levels is as fierce as it's ever been, and even such extraordinary athletes as Michael Jordan and Deion Sanders have been unable to excel at more than one sport. It's the same story at the college level - unless your name is Tara Mounsey. At twenty years old, Mounsey '01 has already lived a lifetime in the public eye. As captain of her Concord, New Hampshire, high school hockey team, she led the way to a state championship. At Brown, her Bobby Orr-style skills as a defenseman guided the Brown ice hockey team to the 1997 Ivy League title and the ECAC regular season championship; Mounsey herself was named the ECAC and Ivy Rookie of the Year. And last winter in Nagano, Japan, she tallied two key goals and four assists as part of the U.S. women's hockey squad that won Olympic gold.
