The Marauder Scholar Award is presented on an annual basis to student-athletes who have achieved a minimal sessional average of 9.5 (80%) over 24 units while competing for a varsity or club team during the school year. The recipient of Dr. Mary Keyes award for the Top Female Marauder Scholar was Lulu Bursztyn (Barrie, ON), a fourth year Chemical Engineering student and member of the McMaster Women's wrestling team.

... The University McMASTER ANNOUNCES ATHLETIC AWARD WINNERS FOR 2003/2004 March 22, 2004. Major Awards LES PRINCE AWARD The Les Prince Award is presented annually to the student-athlete who demonstrates leadership and outstanding community service through the participation in the Outreach Programme. The award was first presented in 1996 in memory of the late Les Prince who was a founding board member of the Athletes Helping Athletes Program and who himself had such enthusiasm for giving back to sport in our community. This award is presented to an individual who has shown leadership and outstanding community service through the Outreach Programme. This year's recipient is one of the most valuable members of the McMaster Women's Swim Team. A third year student in the honours program in Biology and Math, she was also an OUA Championship finalist this season. She is a two-year participant in the McMaster Athlete Outreach Program and was this year's Outreach Co-ordinator for the McMaster Athletic Council. Last year she organized a Committee for Youth Symposium and was the secretary of the Athletic Council. Her energy and commitment to her team and the athletic program have been exceptional making her a deserving candidate of the 2003-2004 Les Prince Award.

Purpose And Mission
The Director of Athletics invites a limited number of first-year student-athletes to participate in a leadership development program for the purpose of becoming better leaders through education and development activities. The focus for this first-year program in on assessing and developing the leadership skills of the individual students. The activities will assist students in their understanding of leadership, the values essential to effective leadership and the responsible application of these to the athletics teams and the athletics program. The first-year participants in this program will also interact with the Student-Athlete Advisory Group, the Captains Council and senior members of the Department/College faculty and administration.
Members of this group after completion of the program are eligible to be invited to participate in the Student-Athlete Advisory Group during their upper-class years at the College. top

FISU 2005 July 6, 2005 OTTAWA (CIS) - Canadian Interuniversity Sport, as the Canadian representative of the F©d©ration Internationale du Sport Universitaire (FISU), announced on Wednesday the athletes and staff who will represent Canada in fencing at the 2005 Summer Universiade. The 23rd Summer Universiade, regrouping 9,000 participants from 170 countries, will be held August 11-21 in Izmir, Turkey. Leading the way for the Canadian contingent will be 11-time national champion and University of Quebec at Montreal student Sandra Sassine of Laval Quebec, who participated at every world championship from 1997 to 2004, and was crowned Canadian sabre champion in 2005. The support staff will be comprised of team leader Jean-Marie Banos of Pointe-Claire, Que., and coach Jerzy Konczalski of Montreal. Banos competed for Canada at the 1984, 1988, 1992 and 1996 Olympics. The eight-day fencing tournament is scheduled for August 12-19. Individual competition in epee, foil and sabre will go from August 12-16, with team competition in the same events following August 17-19.

9/10/2005 - Women's Fencing Head Coach Nikki Franke 7/11/2005 - Women's Fencing FENCING ASSISTANT COACH BRADLEY BAKER FINISHES FIRST AT 2005 US FENCING NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS Bradley Baker SACRAMENTO, CA-Temple fencing assistant coach Bradley Baker took first place in the Division IA Men’s Sabre Championship at the 2005 United States Fencing National Championships, held in Sacramento, Calif. from July 1st through July 10th. Baker ranked number one out of 61 competitors, winning the gold medal bout 15-14 over Alexander Diacou from New York City. Carlton Henry of New York City and Robert Ziechmann of North Carolina tied for third place in the event. 5/14/2005 - Women's Fencing SEASON RECAP: OWLS' SEASON FILLED WITH TEAM/INDIVIDUAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS Nikki Franke PHILADELPHIA—The Temple women’s fencing team completed another successful season finishing with a 17-8 record for the 2004-2005 season. The Owls were ranked as high as 9th by the United States Fencing Coaches Association during the season and ended the season ranked 12th. Highlights included several team tournament victories and strong individual performances from members of all squads. One of the individual accomplishments of team members included junior foil fencer Jenna Remmert's selection to the 2005 National Collegiate Women’s Fencing Championships in Houston, Texas in March.
