104. History Of Fashion Designer Jessica Ogden
Profile provided for the London designer.
http://www.designerhistory.com/historyofashion/ogden.html
Jessica Ogden
Jessica Ogden was born of British parents, in the late 1960's, in Jamaica and was brought up there. She is a graduate of the Byan Shaw School of Art. She initially worked with NoLoGo and launched her own label in 1993. Jessica is a pioneer of salvage fashion, a true original. Her Spring/Summer 2001 show, staged as a tearoom dance, was as delightful as her "one-off" clothes. Antique textiles, cottons and threadbare lace are reworked and hand-stitched into lyrical designs that speak of feminine romance and sweet nostalgia. Her simple, slightly naïve shapes, usually wrapped and layered to flatter any figure, show a child-like charm. She is a master deconstructionist, with a penchant for distressed fabrics and an original style. Hers is a mixture of fashion and craft. Ogden's Spring/Summer 2002 show, was in an empty church in London, but she did not provide any chairs, everyone had to stand up. Her collection was entitled "Threads that Tie" and was typical of her aesthetic gentle style. Faded printed cotton tunics were layered over APC jeans and accessorized with macramé slippers. Wrap dresses had asymmetrical pleating details attached to the waist and Greek inspired bindings. Standout pieces included a strapless, mid-calf length dress made out of patchwork fabric and a white embroidered skirt, worn over jeans.

107. History Of Fashion Designer House Of Prada
Profile, educational, and career track provided of designer who took over her family's luggage company to grow it into a multinational label.
http://www.designerhistory.com/historyofashion/prada.html
HOUSE OF PRADA
Website: www.prada.com The Prada label was begun in 1913 by Mario Prada when he began selling shoes, leather handbags and trunks. He opened two boutiques in Milan after experience in Europe and U.S.A. The classic Prada suitcase was made of heavy walrus skin but as plane travel made heavy suitcases impractical, the company started to make lighter bags and high quality items made of crystals, tortoise shell and wood. They also sold garments of waterproof fabrics to the U.S. However the company had gone into decline in the 1970's. 1950 Miuccia Prada was born. By her mid-20's she had a doctorate in political science and in her 30's, she was a communist. In 1970 she started making backpack bags out of waterproof fabric called Pocone. 1979 She took over the Prada family business. Since sales were down, she expanded into luxury tote bags and backpacks in black with flat classic lines, made from nylon. 1985 She launched a line of footwear for women and her first pret-a-porter clothing line, using high quality fabrics. Her clean lines gave her fame, and she came to be known for under-stated elegant garments. 1993 She received an International award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America.

But he spared his family honour by signing his work only as "Emilio". Returning to Italy, he spent the war years as a bomber in the Italian Air Force. After World War II, in 1947, he was photographed by Toni Frissell of Harper's Bazaar on the Italian ski slopes, wearing ski pants of his own design. The magazine asked him to create some winter clothes for women, which it subsequently published and which per put on sale in various New York stores. 109. History Of Fashion Designer Jean Patou
Designer profile and history and succession of designers at the house provided.
http://www.designerhistory.com/historyofashion/patou.html
JEAN PATOU
Jean Patou was born in Normandy, France, in 1880. Patou's father was a leading tanner (leather maker) and his uncle owned a fur business which Patou joined in 1907. In 1912 Patou opened Maison Parry, a small dressmaking salon in Paris, and sold his entire 1914 collection to one American buyer. His career was then interrupted by the war, which he spent as an army captain. In 1919, he reopened his salon, this time under his own name. His collections were successful from the start. He showed bell-skirted, high-waisted shepherdess-style dresses, many embroidered in the Russian style. He designed for actresses such as Constance Bennett, Mary Pickford and Louise Brooks, but his finest achievements were in the field of sports wear, which always occupied an important position in his collections. In the early 20's, his inspired work in the sportswear field gave fashion another dimension. He dressed tennis star Suzanne Lenglen in styles that she wore both on and off the tennis court. Other clients included the Dolly Sisters, who took 200 changes of garments on their tour of the USA, in the mid 20's, all made by Patou.
