Sixteen SCAD fashion students attended MAGIC, the world's largest trade show for the apparel industry, Aug. 30-31 in Las Vegas. Students visited fashion company trade booths at the show and participated in several seminars with a global audience of serious buyers and sellers of men's, women's and children's apparel and accessories. The objective of the field trip, organized by fashion professor Doris Treptow, was to expose students to the business of fashion, its environment and professional connections.

In this course, students are introduced to the creative planning of jewels. They will start with learning the main drawing techniques, such as orthographic projections and axonometric projections, and later, acquainted with rendering techniques: watercolors, gouaches, markers and pastels. Those techniques will be explained and then applied in the projects, to get a better expression of each student's creativity. Students will be shown projects by professional designers and will study books and magazines in which they can find starting points for their first projects.

Our intensive courses are organized on a 4-week basis. These courses introduce the student to the world of fashion, jewelry and design, giving them their first insight into these fields. Classes are held from Monday through Thursday for a total of 12 hours a week for a total of 48 hours/month. INTRODUCTION TO FASHION DESIGN Students learn how to develop both trade sketch and storyboard techniques by exploring the components that form the cohesiveness of a collection as well as elements that introduce individual creativity.
INTRODUCTION TO PATTERNMAKING Students study how to realize their designs through the use of flat patterns. During the term the students develop basic pattern blocks with paper and apply different methods to transform them into other designs. To understand the effect of the flat-pattern, the students transfer the patterns onto fabric and fits them to a dress form.
APPAREL DESIGN Students will study the basic rules of draping. Students will also approach a basic knowledge of sewing machine and basic stitches. Following these techniques the student will be able to execute personal creative projects from the conceptual phase to the completion of the finished garment.
