CAREER CHOICES: Rogers Rates...Fashion Design "Clothes make the man. Naked people have little or no influence on society." Mark Twain said it and it still holds true today. People need clothes, if only to protect themselves from public indecency charges. And if you're going to have clothes, you might as well have nice ones. So, loosen your forest-green jumbo cords and prepare to enter the unzipped world of the fashion designer. Virginia Macari is just 24 and a fashion designer and company director with Macari and Brennan. Virginia has been hooked on fashion since her dad gave her a toy sewing machine at age eight and she takes the long hours and tight deadlines in her stride. "The satisfaction I get from seeing someone wearing my clothes is amazing. I enjoy the pressure of constantly having to be one step ahead and having to design something new. You also meet so many varied and creative people, both in the industry and among our many clients." Clothes maketh the man, but what makes a good fashion designer? Talent is the key.
