Farm Museums in Southern Germany and Austria Throughout Germany and Austria are many open-air museums displaying typical old farms and local buildings, excellently restored for public viewing. The most famous building in the Black Forest is probably the Vogtsbauernhof - a centuries old farm that is the centerpiece of the near the village of Gutach . The Vogtsbauernhof is the only farmhouse at the museum that was not moved from another location. There are many other buildings to include mills, a bakehouse, a distillery, a chapel and blacksmith shops. Several folklore and lifestyle exhibits and at various times you can view demonstrations of all the old crafts. Seldom do I visit the Schwarzwald without a walkthru of this wonderful old Frelichtmuseum.
This Open-air Museum is located in the old town of Bad Windsheim which is about 24 km northeast of Rothenburg o.d.T . The has 60 plus original buildings representing the rural past of Franconia and is one of the largest of its type in southern Germany. Lots of farms, houses, handicraft and workshops, and mills throughout the property. We visited in June 1999 and one of my 10 yr old daughter's favorite memories was seeing a shepherd near the front gate with his flock of sheep. A worthwhile half-day trip (or less) if you are staying in or near Rothenburg for a few days.

    Sligo.
Phone:+353 71 62741 Welcome Irish history. The special atmosphere of Ireland's countryside has a lot to do with its traditional way - the feeling of contact with older wisdoms. In the farms of the countryside, especially, there is a continuity of love for the land and its domestic animals. Farming is still a family affair, with a lifestyle that respects old courtesies and the habit of kindness to strangers.
Location Irish history. Situated 2km from Sligo town. Signposted from Strandhill and Knocknarea roads. It is under historic Knocknarea Mountain and overlooking Sligo Bay.
Description Irish history. Your guided tour of Woodville farm takes you through mature woodland, green pastures and old farm buildings showing a wide range of farm animals and poultry in their natural surroundings. Come view, hold or feed our animals and collect eggs from the free-range hens. See farming as it used to be in our farm machinery museum.
Wander through the nature trail in mature woodland and enjoy close contact with cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, pet lambs and donkeys in a picturesque parkland setting. Various breeds of poultry and pheasants share our walled garden while history and heritage are well preserved in our renovated (1870) horse stalls museum.

Karen Blixen Museum This museum was originally the home of Karen Blixen, who came to Kenya from Denmark in the early part of this century; the present museum site is at the heart of the larger coffee plantation run by Blixen between 1914 and 1931. The house and surrounding land was donated by the Danish government to Kenya at independence; the house was restored by the Danish government and was used during the filming of Out of Africa, which immortalised Karen Blixen's book by the same name. The Museum was opened to the public in 1986. Much of the original furniture is on display in the house, and combined with the beautifully landscaped gardens and encompassing view of the Ngong Hills, the Museum has continued to be very popular destination for international and local visitors Geographical/ Historical Background Karen Blixen Museum
