Overview of Farm Management Research
The main thrust of research in farm business management is in the assessment of the effects on farm profit of changes in the economic and policy environment and the adoption of new farming systems. Computer models are used to calculate the effects of the adoption of low-input farming systems and to estimate the likely uptake of environmental policy schemes. This work has been supported by SAFE Alliance, Countryside Commission and English Nature. Economic appraisal has been undertaken of the results of on-going School experimental work concerned with the evaluation of Integrated Farming Systems and precision farming technology. Current work is concerned with development of farm management tools for farm appraisal for use by advisors, supported by a major bank. The staff are also heavily involved, and have a national role in the development of Computer Assisted Learning resources for use in farm management teaching, and have well established links with Eastern Europe in this regard.
