The Family and Closely-Held Business Program of the Harold Price Center for Entrepreneurial Studies at UCLA is dedicated to addressing those issues which are critical to the survival and growth of established small and medium sized firms. This is done through research, teaching, and consultation. To further this goal, the Program strives to:

Background
Established in 1991 by the Price Center for Entrepreneurial Studies, the Program began with the UCLA International Research Symposium on Family and Closely-Held Business. The program has conducted an Executive Breakfast Series, an Evening Roundtable Series, and an all day Family Business Seminar. Since 1994 the Program has primarily provided its services through trade and professional associations whose memberships are primarily family firms.

Thomas Chippendale, the 18th century English cabinet and chair maker, bore many of the hallmarks of the modern entrepreneur. His marketing expertise and reputation as a master craftsman brought a constant stream of rich, aristocratic clients to the door of his London studio, and his furniture designs were so advanced and so stylish that they are still in widespread use today. But Chippendale's apparent success conceals a cautionary tale. Consumed by his quest for quality workmanship and client satisfaction, he overlooked the need for solid financial management. Despite years of sustained market demand, he never managed to make the business profitable.
