Related ideas: Party Ideas We have a wonderful relationship with craft author Kathy Ross who has been very generous in sharing her crafts with our website. Kathy spent twenty years as a teacher and director of nursery school programs in Oneida, New York which gave her extensive experience in guiding children through craft projects. She is a collector of teddy bears and paper dolls. Many of her craft projects have appeared in Highlights magazine. She has many years of experience working with and training children in preschool and Sunday school. She has found, through her teaching, the best way for children to really know the Bible is to provide hand-on experiences of making and using props related to Bible stories. This has been an invaluable tool in helping children remember the stories as well as their underlying message. We have several different interviews and many crafts from her many books all featured on our website with her permission. Latest Kathy Ross Crafts: Wooden Spoons Bunny Pin

With autumn crackling and Halloween around the corner, the haunt is on and these easy-to-craft ideas are your first treat (not trick) of the season. Mr. Pumpkin Heads The fun here is in using the vegetables to create different facial features and expressions, so advertisement
don't limit yourself to the ones shown above, says Michael De Jong, who made our jack-o'-lanterns. His basic tips: Eyes: Use a melon baller to carve holes for small vegetables like radishes or okra to sit in. Secure the veggies with skewers. Nose/ears/neck plugs: Slice one side off spherical produce (like eggplants) to increase the amount of surface area that rests flat against the pumpkin; affix the veggies with skewers. (Spritz sliced sides with lemon water to keep them from discoloring.) For a long pepper nose, carve a hole that's a little smaller than the biggest end of the pepper; secure with skewers. Mouth: To cut out a mouth the exact size of a squared-off corncob, first trace its outline on the pumpkin with a water-based marker (which can be wiped right off). A mouth that requires no carving (or parental help): Draw a smile with the marker, prick holes along the line with a skewer, wipe off the marker, then place whole dried cloves in the holes.

White Gourd Wreath The wreath is traditional, but the white gourds are unexpected. (PHOTO: GRIDLEY AND GRAVES)
Assemble:
  • A 22-inch straw wreath
    24 small white gourds
1 spool of green florist wire 24 four-inch-long florist picks Glue gun
Steps:
  • Fashion a hanger by winding the green wire around a section of the wreath four or five times, then make a knot and loop. Sink a florist pick an inch deep into each gourd, varying where you place it: in the center of the top, the bottom, or a side. (If the gourds are too hard, you can make holes first using a hammer and a small nail.) Tack each gourd to the wreath, using a glue gun to secure the picks to the wreath. Follow suit with the rest of the gourds, positioning them closely so that no straw shows.

    http://www.mlaproductions.com/danfall_home.html
The festival, co-sponsored by the Danville Area Chamber of Commerce and the Town of Danville , is now in its fourteenth year and attracts over 50,000 people every year to beautiful Hartz Avenue in downtown Danville-a city 40 miles east of San Francisco that's a mix of beautiful residences from the Gold Rush days along with magnificent homes of the future. Quaint Hartz Avenue is a natural for unique specialty shops and gourmet dining. During October, the weather is usually unpredictable.
Key ingredients to the success of this family event is the "home town" parade (Saturday, 10 a.m.), Safe Trick or Treating, a bigger and better Scarecrow Contest (see Scarecrow Alley page for Entry Form), a kids activity area sponsored by the San Ramon Valley Times and, of course, the high quality art and crafts being displayed by over 200 artisans.
This festival has approximately 60% contemporary and traditional crafts and 40% fine art. Find out more about the participating artists by going to the festival's press release page.
