The Bible

What makes the Bible so amazing, special and important? There has never been a book written in the same way as the Bible!
  • The Bible was written by over 40 authors...
  • who wrote from 3 different continents: Asia, Africa and Europe...
  • in many different places: wilderness, prison, traveling, islands...
  • at different times; covering a span of 1,500 years...
  • who did different kinds of jobs: fishermen, kings, shepherds, a herdsman, a politician, a doctor, a tax collector, a rabbinical scholar and more.
They all wrote about the same thing, and without any contradictions

The purpose of his third voyage was to find the fabled Northwest Passage. Unlike other explorers who attempted to find this area of the world, Cook attempted a route from the Pacific side. Cook visited some of his favorite islands in the Pacific and made stops in New Zealand and Tahiti.

James Cook
On August 25, [1768], Cook departed England aboard the Endeavour with 94 crewmen and scientists. He was carrying secret orders from the Royal Navy to be opened upon completion of his scientific mission. Cook was determined to keep his crew healthy. He insisted his men eat onions and pickled cabbage every day, and made sure that the ship kept fresh fruit and vegetables on board. He ordered his men to bathe every day, to clean their clothing, and to air out their bedding. He did not know the scientific reasons behind these measures, but he knew they worked to prevent scurvy and other diseases in his crew.

Mars Explorers Call for Opening the 'New World'

24 August 2001 STANFORD, Calif. The way to kick-start a humans-to-Mars program is to take a do-it-yourself approach and focus on research needed to open the Red Planet to explorers and eventually settlers, a guru for Mars exploration says. Private monies are being spent to study how to combat the long-duration effects on mice and humans of microgravity en route to Mars, and to better assess the skills required of people that voyage that great distance to open up the next "New World" for humankind, says Mars Society President, Robert Zubrin. "I am myself of the pragmatist school. If humans-to-Mars can be done publicly or privately, I want it to be done," Zubrin said. "Whether its started by a NASA base or a private consortium, it will develop into an independent branch of human civilization."

Census of Marine Life
Census of Marine Life explorers surprised by diversity, density of Arctic creatures
'The Ice Oceans' abound with life; matching effort announced for antarctic
Specimens Drawn from Depths of Ice-Lidded Canada Basin and Northern Seas; Churn at South Pole May Be Cradle of Maritime Genetic Diversity A historic expedition of Census of Marine Life explorers to the planet's most northern reaches has revealed a surprising density and diversity of Arctic Ocean creatures, some believed new to science. Sheltered for millennia under a lid of ice currently one to 20 meters thick, unexpectedly high numbers and varieties of large Arctic jellies, squid, cod, and other animals have been found thriving in the extreme cold, thanks to a landmark voyage during the brief polar summer aboard an American ice cutter. News of the marine discoveries in the far north coincides with announcement of seed funds for a matching effort in the Antarctic. 110. Australian Explorers
Provides detailed accounts of men who explored and mapped the continent of Australia. Designed especially for elementary school students.
http://www.davidreilly.com/australian_explorers/
In 1788, with the arrival of the first fleet, little was known about this wide brown land which we now call Australia. It was only through the courage and perseverance by many brave explorers, that the Australia we know today, was mapped. These explorers travelled into unknown country and waters, naming mountains, valleys, plains, lakes, rivers, deserts and mapping our coastline. They experienced extreme hardship and danger, many even dying, or like Leichhardt, disappearing into the desert, never to be seen again. They suffered disease, hunger, thirst and exhaustion, all the time facing overwhelming odds. Why did they take such risks? Maybe for some it was part of the job, for others it was curiosity or a sense of adventure. Perhaps for some it was the hope of finding silver, gold or good land. Maybe they were searching for fame. Whatever, their reason, these brave men opened up Australia to settlement and allowed the colony to expand. In doing so, through their bravery, they wrote their names into the history of Australia. Primary school children searching the Internet for information on Australian explorers often have difficulty finding information suitable for their year level. Hopefully, this page will provide them with an additional resource which they can access for help with school projects.
