Journal of Evolutionary Biology
The Journal of Evolutionary Biology is a bimonthly, peer-reviewed, international journal, established in 1987 and owned by the Europen Society for Evolutionary Biology. It covers both micro- and macro-evolution of all types of organisms. The aim of the Journal is to integrate perspectives across molecular and microbial evolution, behaviour, genetics, ecology, life histories, development, palaeontology, systematics and morphology. To fulfil its integrative role, the Journal gives preference to papers that bring together two or more fields. The Journal seeks a balance, even a tension, between theory and data. The Editorial Board reflects the multidisciplinary role of the Journal and its international focus. For further information on the scope of the journal, see the Editorial Membership of the European Society for Evolutionary Biology includes subscription to the journal The Journal is published by Blackwell Science, and on their site you will find all further information on the journal . This includes information about subscriptions, guidelines for submitting manuscripts, and editorial procedures. Manuscripts can be submitted online at

North America The Committee on Evolutionary Biology at the University of Chicago is a unique interdepartmental and inter-institutional graduate program for the study of Evolutionary Biology in its broadest sense. The program is directed at students interested in the interdisciplinary study of evolutionary biology at time scales that range from single generations to the entire history of life and at all organizational scales on all evolutionary processes.
The approximately 67 faculty include members from all four graduate divisions (Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences, Social Sciences, and Humanities) as well as from institutions outside the University (Argonne National Laboratory, Brookfield Zoo, Field Museum of Natural History and the Lincoln Park Zoo). Research is conducted throughout the world and on most major groups of organisms and in most ecosystems. Resources include access to numerous field sites, field vehicles, research funds for pilot work, labs in molecular genetics as well as numerous other types of expertise. The curriculum is directed at a broad synthetic view of evolution.

The Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at Yale provides integrative training and research opportunities in all aspects of comparative biology. The research interests of the faculty span multiple levels of biological organization, ranging from the origins of novel molecular function to the study of global interaction between climatic and biotic change. We are a newly created department in the process of expansion. In addition to our existing strengths, we anticipate several new appointments, particularly in the area of ecology, and accompanying growth in the graduate program.

Independent research begins early in the graduate program, which is designed to prepare students for careers in research and higher education. Each student develops a flexible course of preparation individually arranged to meet his or her specific needs. In addition to course work, students receive much of their training through seminars and colloquia.Seminars each semester address topics of particular interest to current graduate students, and weekly colloquia in each of the graduate programs on campus give students contact with visiting scientists from a wide variety of disciplines. The Graduate Program in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology is centered in Walter Hall and is a closely knit academic family that currently includes 13 principal faculty members, 13 graduate students, and several postdoctoral associates. This small size gives our students the opportunity to interact in a personal and flexible program tailored for students within whole-organism biology, while resources in the other graduate programs on campus simultaneously give students the advantage of a large program. Campus-wide, there are over 25 faculty and 35 graduate students with active interests in organismal biology, addressing problems at all levels of organization. 80 Waterman Street, Box G-W, Brown University, Providence, RI 02912

VICTORIA SORK AWARD FROM NSF
The National Science Foundation recently awarded UCLA with a grant for support of the project entitled "Collaborative research: Seed-flow in California Valley Oak (Quercus lobata)Novel Approaches to an Old Problem." This project is under the direction of Victoria Sork, in collaboration with Peter Smouse, The State University of New Jersey, Rutgers. Welcome to the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at UCLA, home of the Biology Major. Our mission is to provide new knowledge of the ecological and evolutionary processes that produce and sustain life on Earth and to educate the next generation of scholars, professionals, and citizens for the biological, environmental and biotechnological challenges of the future. For undergraduates, we offer four majors in biology that includes rigorous and stimulating classes, extensive individual research opportunities with professors, and exciting field courses in unique habitats.. Our graduate program offers a variety of specializations, within the core areas: ecology and conservation, evolution and genetics, and behavior and organismic biology. Our faculty members are engaged in exciting, high-quality research that generates a dynamic learning environment for undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral students. We invite you to explore our website and learn more about our educational programs and research activities.

Evolutionary biology
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
Evolutionary biology is a subfield of biology concerned with the origin and descent of species , as well as their change over time, i.e. their evolution . One who studies evolutionary biology is known as an evolutionary biologist , or less frequently evolutionist Evolutionary biology is something of a meta field because it includes scientists from many traditional taxonomically -oriented disciplines. For example, it generally includes scientists who may have a specialist training in particular organisms such as mammalogy ornithology , or herpetology but use those organisms as systems to answer general questions in evolution. It also generally includes paleontogists who use fossils to answer questions about the mode and tempo of evolution, as well as theoreticians in areas such as population genetics and evolutionary theory. In the developmental biology made a re-entry into evolutionary biology from its initial exclusion from the modern synthesis through the study of evolutionary developmental biology

Research at Evolutionary Biology Centre
EBC answers for most of Uppsala University's research and education in biology. Evolutionary biology comprises research touching on evolutionary processes at all levels, from molecular evolution and the evolution of genetic systems, organs, and immune systems to the evolution of local adaptation and social behaviours in natural populations, processes behind the development of new species, and the systems of organisms. The disciplines physiology, developmental biology and environmental toxicology, where the interactions between organisms and the environment are studied, are also part of EBC. The Museum of Evolution (Botany, Zoology and Paleontology) has both public and scientific lines of activitiy. EBC hosts a number of research programmes (presented in the left column) which are each specialized and also involved in cooperations with other EBC-programmes and other fields and Universities. We conduct research in a variety of projects reaching outside the traditional biological disciplines. These involve both fundamental research and applied research concerning i.e. environmental issues and threatened species. The research is to a large extent based upon genetics and searches for better understanding of the evolutionary origin of organisms. We also do research for more knowledge about how organisms and their characteristics are affected by environmental factors.
