German Genealogy Home Page
This sounds like a general genealogy site but it is the one source of German Genealogical information that beginner to expert must have.
As you explore it you'll find it has some of the very basics, such as the FAQ for the newsgroup soc.genealogy.german, plus lists of Q and A's for beginners as well as those seeking to go farther in German Genealogical research. There are sections dealing with and about various German states, eg. Bavaria, Saxony, Rhineland, Prussia, etc. This also includes Austrian states such as Carinthia, Tyrol, etc. Also covered are states from the old Austro-Hungarian Empire and former German territories such as Alsace, Schlesein, East Prussia, Bohemia, etc.
It is hard to list everything that is in this site. There are sections on Germans from Russia, Germans from Hungary as well as reviews of the all-important Germans To America series of References and lists of Genealogical societies in Germany.

Croatian Genealogy Seminar
If your ancestors came from the area of Croatia, Bosnia or parts of Serbia you will not want to miss this seminar. We devote the entire day to areas of search, how to search, etc., for people who came from this region REGARDLESS of ethnicity. You won't want to miss this one!
Genealogy has become very popular, with people wanting to leave a record of their heritage for their children and grandchildren! While we know we are Croatians many of us dont know much beyond our grandparents who came to America.
There are many misconceptions regarding our families. For instance many people believe that names were changed at Ellis Island. That simply is not true! And that is a good thing, which will help us trace many families to the old country. In fact it may be easier to trace your Croatian roots than you think. Much information is a close as your PC or a Family History Center in your town.
The parish of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church of Youngstown Ohio has graciously invited us to hold a Croatian genealogy seminar in their church hall. The seminar will take place on Saturday, Nov 13th, 2004, from 8:30 AM to 4 PM

William Dollarhide[ email ] @ 2:51 pm Thu, Sep 15, 2005 Last Thursday, at the FGS conference in Salt Lake City,a lady came by the Heritage Creations exhibit to buy the book. The following day, she came back to give her success story. Apparantly, she took the book to the Family History Library that night, and based on an entry for a 1807 tax list for the town of Hadley in Saratoga County, New York published in Patents in 1995, a periodical of the Northeastern New York Genealogical Society, she decided to see if the FHL had that periodical so she could check the list for a lost ancestor. They did have it, a complete run for some twenty years, on microfilm, but also on the shelves. She found the volume indicated in the NY book and within a couple of minutes she was looking at a list of names of residents, which included her long-lost ancestor. The fellow apparently was not in the 1800 or 1810 censuses, but there he was in an 1807 tax list. It confirmed to her that he was indeed in Saratoga County during that period, gave his age, and led to other people with the same surname living nearby. She was thrilled, and said she had to come back to tell me the story.
