The Linguistic and Cultural Boundaries of AATSEEL." The keynote is scheduled for December 29 at 11:00. People and Cultures of the Kingdom of Biffeche Pop Up Picture One of the numerous baby Ronald's named after our beloved King
Peoples of Biffeche
The ethnic groups of Biffeche live together in harmony, united by their love for the Kingdom, mutual respect, and pious submission to, and appreciation of God's will. Although there are some common cultural practices unique to Biffeche, each group brings its own rich heritage and culture; many noble races and ancient Kingdoms and empires enrich our Kingdom today. Pop Up Picture A small Biffeche family shows the loyalty for which our citizens have always been known. Ethnic groups include Peulh (Fula), Sérér-Ndut, Wolof, Naar (Moor) and American, but all are truly called "the Biffeche". Pop Up Picture Madame Sow, one of the wives of Chevalier Malick Sow with some of his children and grandchildren. The Peulh (also called Fula or Ful Fulde) are a nomadic pastoral race, guiding their herds all across West Africa. They are the only nomadic pastoral race in all of West Africa (hence in Biffeche). Unlike the case in East Africa with pastoral nomads, the Fula get along well with the non-pastoral groups in Biffeche among whom they live. They are the largest ethnic group in Biffeche, spread across the countryside in numerous villages. They are a proud race, noble in appearance. "Our language is Pulaar, the most harmonious sounding, and yet perhaps the most complicated of all Biffeche languages." Tukulor people here also speak Pulaar. Most are devote Muslims, a few are Christian and several groups are traditionalist.

The M.A. European Urban Cultures The M.A. European Urban Cultures (MA EUC) is a new, full time, postgraduate degree jointly developed by four European universities; the Catholic University of Brabant, Tilburg; (Netherlands); the Flemish Free University of Brussels (Belgium); Helsinki University of Art and Design (Finland) and the Manchester Metropolitan University (UK).
Catholic University of Brabant, Tilburg
Flemish Free University of Brussels Helsinki University of Art and Design Manchester Metropolitan University All over Europe, cities are faced with the challenge to use cultural resources to re-position their city in a culturally and economically more diversified European space. Related to this is a clear recognition of the growing importance of cultural resources for economic and community development. This produces new opportunities and challenges for local cultural planning and management. In order to fully exploit the innovative and supportive role of culture in European urban development, it will be necessary to develop a new, socially and culturally sensitive professionalism, able to cross the boundaries between the arts, design, urban and spatial planning, public policy and the market, artistic creativity and cultural management. The MA in European Urban Cultures (MA EUC) offers a specialist programme aimed at graduate students from Europe and elsewhere with undergraduate degrees in subject areas such as the social sciences; cultural and leisure studies; art, design and architecture; urban theory and planning; cultural marketing and management. The course is also targeted as professionals and administrators eager for the latest experiences, ideas and inisghts in urban cultural policy.

Council of Europe Cultural Routes
The Cultural Routes programme was launched by the Council of Europe in 1987. The initial concept was to demonstrate in a visible way, by means of a journey through space and time, how the heritage of the different countries of Europe represented a shared cultural heritage.
The Cultural Routes also provide a concrete demonstration of the fundamental principles of the Council of Europe: human rights, cultural democracy, European cultural diversity and identity, dialogue, mutual exchange and enrichment across boundaries and centuries. (more...)

Program website: http://www.brandeis.edu/departments/ecs/ Objectives European Cultural Studies (ECS) offers students the opportunity to study English and continental literature in translation in conjunction with one or more related disciplines: fine arts, history, music, philosophy, politics, sociology, and theater arts. Students will be able to count appropriate courses taken in clusters toward the ECS major. ECS is for those students who feel intellectually adventurous, who want to explore the interrelationships of literature with various other disciplines in order to gain a broader perspective of what constitutes "culture." With the advent of an everchanging Europe, students in ECS will be better prepared, in all areas, to keep abreast with current and future events. Many of our students spend some time abroad to get a feel for the cultures in which they are most interested. ECS majors have gone on to graduate schools (in history, politics, English, and other fields), have entered law school, business school, and advanced programs in international studies. How to Become a Major It is highly advisable that students make a decision no later than the middle of their sophomore year in order to take full advantage of the ECS major.
