(1995) "The Reception of Forbidden Archeology: An Encounter Between Western Science and a Non-Western Perspective on Human Antiquity." Kentucky State University Institute for Liberal Studies Sixth Annual Interdisciplinary Conference: Science and Culture. I presented this paper at the Kentucky State University Institute of Liberal Studies, Sixth Annual Interdisciplinary Conference: Science and Culture, held at Frankfort, Kentucky, March 30 - April 1, 1995. A short abstract is published in the conference proceedings. A short excerpt from the paper appears in Back to Godhead (March/April 1996, p. 26). The entire text of the paper appears in ISKCON Communications Journal (Vol. 5, No. 1, 1997). Abstract Forbidden Archeology, by Michael Cremo and Richard Thompson of the Bhaktivedanta Institute, documents voluminous scientifically reported evidence contradicting current ideas about human antiquity. This suppressed evidence supports accounts of extreme human antiquity encountered in ancient India's Puranic literature. Responses to Forbidden Archeology from mainstream and nonmainstream knowledge communities illuminate Western science's descent from self-proclaimed epistemic superiority into a diverse multipolar global intellectual constellation from which may emerge a new consensus on human origins.

The Issues of Modern Archaeology
The Issues of Modern Archaeology Archeological work basically happens on construction sites
PRAVDA.Ru conducted an interview with Valery Bulgakov, the man who set up a website of East-European Archeology. Born in 1966, Valery graduated from Kiev University, from the Vienna Institute of Byzantine Studies. At present, he chairs the analytical research lab of the Research Institute, which attached to the Ukrainian Ministry for Culture and Art.
How did this idea come up – to create a website for East-European Archeology? Who was the founder of the project: archaeologists or programmers?
The idea came up during the development of the East-European Archaeological Journal. Now, this journal is a part of the numerous sections of the server. We thought that we needed some sort of a bubble, an environment, in which this journal could become a lot more efficient. This is how the idea appeared. We have specified the logic of the project several times and changed the design. The current situation with the project is the result of our work. Yet, we have more changes to come. Speaking about the people who initiated the website, I have to say that the whole thing was launched by archaeologists. I am an archaeologist myself. At least, I deal with the project as an archaeologist.
The site is very well organized, and it contains a lot of high quality scientific information on it. One can find underwater archaeology, numismatics, and so on and so forth. The list of all of its sections would take too much space. How do you save and select the information?

The MU Libraries Remember Professor Homer L. Thomas and His Many Contributions to the Libraries. The following obituary was supplied by the Department of Art History and Archeology and was previously published in the AHA Newsletter, Number 8, Summer 2003. We thank Marcus Rautman, Department Chair, for sharing this with us. Homer Thomas (1913-2003) Homer Thomas, Professor Emeritus of Art History and Archeology, was born in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1913. He attended the University of Chicago, the Warburg Institute in London, and the Johns Hopkins University. He completed his studies and received his Ph.D. from the University of Edinburgh in 1949. He worked at the Asia Institute of New York City and the University of Michigan before coming to the Department of Art at the University of Missouri in 1950. Homer Thomas and Saul Weinberg were instrumental in re-establishing the Department of Art History and Archeology as an independent academic unit in 1960. Professor Thomas taught courses in Oriental Art and Civilization I-II, European Art and Archeology I-II, Roman Provincial and Early Christian Art, and Art of the Dark Ages. He supervised the writing of eighteen masters theses and four doctoral dissertations. Throughout his years in Columbia he played an important role in building the collections of Ellis Library, including the superb holdings in the fields of archeology and art history. He cared so much about the quality and depth of the MU Libraries' collection that he used to travel to Europe in the summers at his own expense, scouring bookstores and calling on antiquarian book dealers to acquire for the library missing items, based on his vast and detailed knowledge of the library holdings and the gaps in them.

MiSciNet's Ancestors of Science: Complex Iron Smelting and Prehistoric Culture in Tanzania
DONALD AVERY
UNITED STATES
27 MAY 2005 Reposted from Science Magazine, 22 September 1978 Recent discoveries show complex technological achievement in African iron production. Summary . Western scientists and students of history have long explained the iron bloomery process by evidence available from European archeology. Ethnographic, technological, and archeological research into the technological life of the Haya of northwestern Tanzania show that these people and their forebears 1500 to 2000 years ago practiced a highly advanced iron smelting technology based on preheating principles and, as a result, produced carbon steel. This sophisticated technology may have evolved as an adaptation to overexploited forest resources. These discoveries are significant for the history of Africa and the history of metallurgy.
