Study Options ACT NSW NT QLD ... VIC How do I study to become an archaeologist in Australia?
Archaeology is taught in many Australian universities. The tricky thing is that it is not always called 'archaeology' and it is not always taught in 'Departments of Archaeology'! Archaeology is often taught as part of Anthropology, Ancient History, Classics and Social Science programs. So when you are looking at university courses, make sure you have a good search through these areas as well.
In the list below we have tried to showcase all the major archaeological teaching programs available in Australia. We have included a web link to get you to the home page of the department for further details as well as a list of 'Fields of Speciality' for each institution. Please note that this may not cover all the courses or specialisations available at an institution. These change with changes in staff, research grants etc.

Introduction The purpose of this text is to provide a general overview of the culture and is intended as a resource for students and teachers of European Archaeology.
Location
The wide-spread Corded Ware culture complex (German: Schnurkeramik ) derives its name from the frequent use of decorative cord impressions on the pots. The pottery roughly covers the former territory of the Funnel Beaker and related cultures. However, in the east it goes far beyond its confines. Thus, it is found throughout much of North, Central and Eastern Europe ( Map of Corded Ware distribution ). On the map I divide the complex into the

Introduction
The purpose of this text is to provide a general overview of the culture and is intended as a resource for students and teachers of European Archaeology.
Location
The genesis of the first full-fledged farmers of Central Europe is sought in Transdanubia, western Hungary, and adjacent regions of the Danube Basin ( Map Map ). This leads to the notion of a Danubian culture complex These Danubian farmers existed between about 5700/5500 – 5000 cal BC ( Chronological Table They are known primarily by the German term Linearbandkeramik ” or “ Linienbandkeramik abbreviated ( LBK ). Literally translated this means Linear Band Ceramics or Linear Band Pottery (often incorrectly termed Linear Pottery ). The name stems from the characteristic design of linear bands gracing the early pottery. The culture is now usually referred to simply as Bandkeramik . The Bandkeramik was first recognized by the German archaeologist F. Klopfleisch in 1884.

Salzgitter: Archiv der Stadt Salzgitter Recent studies in the final Palaeolithic of the European plain: proceedings of a UISPP Symposium, Stockholm, 14-17 October 1999. In Palaeolithic archaeology, most of the momentous discoveries and publications of the last few years fall outside or at the boundaries of Europe. So is Europe now being relegated to the periphery of a global discipline? Despite the problems in resolution and reliability of data from old excavations, Europe is still distinguished by the richness of its evidence and a disproportionately high share of the economic and intellectual resources of Palaeolithic archaeology. This allows for the continent to act as an international intellectual arena for Palaeolithic archaeologists from all theoretical and methodological backgrounds. This multiplicity of approaches, often used to analyse and interpret the same datasets, and the continuous application of new questions, methods and ideas, enables Europe to retain its unique position within Palaeolithic archaeology, even if most of the 'hot' new finds come from elsewhere.

Reports in 1993 on archaeological excavations were far fewer than normal. Little news was yet at hand for Central and Eastern Europe, or from Africa and Asia, because of political circumstances. No excavations were done in large parts of the southwestern Asian Middle East, and work was difficult in Egypt.
