COUNTRIES AND REGIONS
A measure of Canada's successful political and commercial relations with other countries has been our ability to conduct international activities in a spirit of shared enterprise, while continuing to promote and protect Canada's values and interests. As a leader in areas such as peacekeeping, landmine removal, technology and innovation, Canada has much to offer its global partners.
FEATURES
Asia Pacific
Canada has strong historic and social ties to the Asia-Pacific region. Our position as a leader in telecommunications, transportation, natural resources and education makes us a unique partner to meet many of the region's growing needs, as well as acting as a foundation for mutually satisfying cultural exchanges. Our shared interests cross all areas of human activities, from art to sport, from business to technology, and from the environment to trade. Canada is a member of several Asia-Pacific multilateral organizations which work to achieve mutual political, economic and social goals. Europe
Europe is traditionally the origin of many of our forebears and now one of Canada's largest trade and investment partners. We are natural allies on a variety of issues. This foundation allows us to work closely together with the countries of greater Europe, including certain Central Asian states, to promote our industries, our technology and our shared values. We are linked though the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), and other organizations.

US threatens sanctions against Europe and steel exporters
International trade tensions grow
By Jerry White 14 November 1998 Relations between the US and its major trading partners are rapidly deteriorating in an atmosphere of mutual recriminations and the danger of the outbreak of trade war. In the past few days the Clinton administration has warned that it will impose tariffs on European goods if regulations are not lifted on US banana exports, and threatened action against Japan, Russia and Brazil for "dumping" low-cost steel in the American market. Last weekend during a conference of US and European business leaders and trade officials held in Charlotte, North Carolina, Vice President Al Gore, Commerce Secretary William Daley and Deputy Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers accused the European Union of shirking responsibility for easing the world economic crisis by not doing enough to boost growth and open its market to imports from Asia. Daley warned that if Europe did not share more of the burden, "this year's global financial crisis would become next year's global trade crisis." On Tuesday US Trade Representative Charlene Barshefsky threatened to place 100 percent tariffs on wine, cheese and other imports from Europe if the EU did not lift trade restrictions on bananas sold by American companies. Chiquita Brands International and the Dole Food Company have long complained that they are unfairly restrained from selling Latin American-grown bananas in Europe. The 100 percent tariffs would go into effect February 1.

International Biotech/Lab Automation Europe is the main European event where visitors can find out what's new in Life Sciences. Now in its third year, with a 20% year increase in attendance; the combined International Biotech and Lab Automation Europe event represents the best opportunity in Europe for companies to launch new products. Last year, a combination of over 2300 attendees and 170 exhibitors delivered converged to create an event that was the buzz of the industry. Both exhibitions take place in the same hall of London's Olympia and visitors can move freely between the shows. But the event is much more than just an exhibition. Free poster sessions, seminars and careers advice, New Automation Processes in Drug Discovery, together with networking and deal-making opportunities make a great day out.

Trade
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
A fruit stand at a market. Trade is the voluntary exchange of goods services , or both. Trade is also called commerce. A mechanism that allows trade is called a market . The original form of trade was barter , the direct exchange of goods and services. Modern traders instead generally negotiate through a medium of exchange, such as money . As a result, buying can be separated from selling , or earning . The invention of money (and later credit, paper money and non-physical money) greatly simplified and promoted trade. Trade between two traders is called bilateral trade, while trade between more than two traders is called multilateral trade. Trade exists for many reasons. Due to specialization and division of labor, most people concentrate on a small aspect of production, trading for other products. Trade exists between regions because different regions have an absolute or comparative advantage in the production of some tradable commodity, or because different regions' size allows for the benefits of mass production . As such, trade at
