Actually I didn't know it, because of the Soviet secrecy, but my second Uncle in Estonia Arne Timusk is a champion rally driver. When I visited in 1993 Arne drove us about in his lada. He told us that he had recieved many free ladas to drive for the Soviet team. Even now after independence he still drives in rallies. The Estonian's enjoy singing. In fact, the revolution that brought Estonia's second chance at independence was callled the singing revolution. My aunt has made regular trips to Estonia to sing in choir groups. There are signs of human activity from the middle of the 8th millennium BC. In the mid-3rd millennium BC, Finno-Ugric tribes arrived from the East and became mixed with the forerunners of the Baltic people who had previously migrated here. Estonians have thereafter lived on their land for 5,000 years, being one of the longest settled European peoples. The oldest written record of Estonia was made by al-Idrisi and dates from 1154. By the beginning of the 13th century, a state had not yet developed, feudal system was unknown, there were no towns, and the effect of Christianity was minor. There was a population of approximately 100,000 people. RULED BY VARIOUS POWERS (13th century 1918) Early Fight For Independence At the end of the 12th century, the German armed, religious expansion to the east increased. Warfare commenced at the beginning of the 13th century, when the pagan society fought against the more advanced European society.
