The International Language Esperanto La Internacia Lingvo
Esperanto is a language that was developed in 1887 by Ludwik Zamenhof with the specific intent of creating an international second language. In 1905, Zamenhof published his Fundamento de Esperanto , which lays down the basic principles of the language's structure and formation. Esperanto is probably the most successful of the artificial international languages. The number of Esperanto speakers is estimated at more than 2 million. The Universala Esperanto-Asocio (founded in 1908) has members in 83 countries, and there are 50 national Esperanto associations that use Esperanto. There is an annual World Esperanto Congress, and over 100 periodicals are published in the language. More than 30,000 books have been published in Esperanto. Esperanto Course: Introduction
What is Esperanto?

Esperanto is a language, but not one like most other languages, it's an artificially constructed language. But this fact makes Esperanto even more interesting to learn. Esperanto was constructed at the end of the 19 th century by Ludwig L. Zamenhof from Poland. In his hometown there were serious problems caused by miscommunication, there were many people from many different countries and so many different languages were spoken, which caused confusion and racism. Zamenhof found a solution to this problem, during most years of his live he constructed the Esperanto language, an easy and logical language meant to become the international language, the language that people would speak when they couldn't speak eachother's language. The history of Esperanto
Why learn Esperanto?

As you have read, Esperanto is still alive, there are many books available and there are three million speakers worldwide. The language still can solve the problems it was designed for. So we'd like to encourage as many people as possible to learn this wonderful language. The language is extremely easy, but still very complete. And by learning Esperanto you can also learn to understand other languages better and easier, Esperanto forms a solid base. It breaks language barriers and it's a neutral language, not belonging to a nation, culture or religion. About this course
This course will teach you Esperanto in 21 lessons. All basic aspects will be covered and after finishing this course you'll already be able to speak quite some Esperanto! You'll even amaze yourself!

8. ILANI YA PRAHA
Prague Declaration on the movement for esperanto language, 1996.

    Origin
Esperanto is an international auxiliary language devised in 1887 by Dr. Ludovic Lazar Zamenhof (1859-1917), a Jewish Eye Doctor, under the pseudonym of "Doktoro Esperanto". He originally called the language "La Internacia Lingvo" (The International Language), but it soon became known as Esperanto, which means "the hoping one". Zamenhof was born in the Polish city of Bialystok which at that time was home to a polyglot, multiethnic mixture of Poles, Russians, Jews, Lithuanians and Germans. He believed that much of the distrust and misunderstanding between the different ethnic groups was a result of language differences, so he resolved to create an international language which could be used as an neutral lingua franca and could help break down the language barriers. Zamenhof's first work on Esperanto, the "Unua Libro" (First Book) published in 1887, contained 920 roots from which tens of thousands of words could be formed, together with the "Fundamenta Gramatiko" (Grammatical Foundations), which consisted of 16 basic grammatical rules. Zamenhof renounced all rights to Esperanto and encouraged comments and suggestions on the development of the language. The first Universal Esperanto Congress (La Unua Universala Esperanto Kongreso) was held at Boulogne-sur-Mer in 1905.
