183. Declaracion De Mujeres De Eritrea En Londres
http://womenstrike8m.server101.com/Spanish/EritreaStatement.htm

Ethiopia, Eritrea open new border war front
February 8, 1999
Web posted at: 10:31 a.m. EST (1531 GMT) ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia (Reuters) Ethiopia army units backed by fighter planes attacked Eritrean troops on a second front on Monday in an escalation of the border conflict between the two Horn of Africa states. Each side accused the other of firing first near Tsorona, a small Eritrean town which lies on a heavily-militarised plain between two mountain ranges and controls access to the strategic Eritrean town of Dekamhare, close to the capital Asmara. Ethiopia said it had deployed fighter aircraft to attack Eritrean positions outside Tsorona and on the Badme front further west, the first time either side has admitted using air power in three days of fierce fighting between the former allies. Government spokeswoman Selome Taddesse said its offensive on both fronts was in response to Eritrean attacks.

Flag adopted
5 December 1995, coat of arms adopted 24 May 1993.
National Flag
Description: Green over light blue with red traingle at hoist reaching the fly, and with yellow wreath in it.
The construction sheet in Album 2000 (that is wrong apparently, to be corrected in "Correction 1" evenutally) positions the midpoint of the wreath 1/2 hoist from hoist, that same size being the height of the wreath, too.
Now, a biger problem is overall ratio. Prevously on FOTW, and on Graham's World Flag Database site and in Album 1995 the ratio is given as 2:3, while in Album 2000 (and Corr 24. of Album 1996 and latter) as well as on the Shipmate chart 2000 it is 1:2. Presumaby the latter data would be more correct.
Pantone approximation given in Album 2000 are: green red yellow blue Even if there seems to be no direct connection with green and blue flag in neighbouring countries and regions, certainly the light blue - green combination is popular in the area.

ASMARA, Eritrea (Reuters) African nation Eritrea says 52,000 Australian sheep that spent months at sea after being rejected by dozens of countries would be slaughtered over the next two months and eaten. Over 5,000 sheep died during their time on board what some Australian media dubbed the "ship of death" as more than 20 states turned them away on health grounds. The animals have been herded ashore in Eritrea after the impoverished African country agreed to take them as a gift. Eritrean Agriculture Minister Arefayne Berhe said Monday there were no health issues associated with the sheep. "Our veterinarians have inspected them and testified they are free from disease," he said. "The fact that they were on board the ship for so long is good for us. "They were de facto in quarantine, and if they have been for so long in quarantine and don't show any symptoms of a disease, it only attests to us that they are free of any disease and fit for human consumption," he added.

Ethiopian jets shot down by Eritrea
Planes downed during reprisal bombings
June 5, 1998
Web posted at: 1:34 p.m. EDT (1734 GMT)
In this story:
ASMARA, Eritrea (CNN) Eritrean anti-aircraft guns shot down two Ethiopian military aircraft that bombed an Eritrean air force base Friday, a day after Ethiopia's premier agreed to a peace proposal for their disputed border. No details were immediately available on casualties. The two east African nations have been engaged in a violent border dispute for nearly a month, but in the past few days appeared to be inching toward an internationally brokered settlement. In the Eritrean capital of Asmara, heavy smoke billowed from one of two hangars hit by the bombers in their attack on the air base, which adjoins Asmara's international airport, about two kilometers (one mile) southwest of the city.
