Feminist Epistemology and Philosophy of Science
The central concept of feminist epistemology is that of a situated knower, and hence of situated knowledge: knowledge that reflects the particular perspectives of the subject. Feminist philosophers are interested in how gender situates knowing subjects. They have articulated three main approaches to this question: feminist standpoint theory, feminist postmodernism, and feminist empiricism. Different conceptions of how gender situates knowers also inform feminist approaches to the central problems of the field: grounding feminist criticisms of science and feminist science, defining the proper roles of social and political values in inquiry, evaluating ideals of objectivity and rationality, and reforming structures of epistemic authority.

51. Cognition And Xenodochy Home Page
The philosophy of simple and mobile life including a synthesis of epistemology, metaphysics, ethics, general semantics, psychology, and motivation, with an explanation of the biological basis of prejudice.
http://www.xenodochy.org
cognition and xenodochy
Cognition The action or faculty of knowing taken in its widest sense, including sensation, perception, conception, etc., as distinguished from feeling and volition. Xenodochy Hospitality to strangers, particularly the reception of foreigners; living together with other species on friendly terms; recognizing and supporting civil rights for aliens. Sentient Sovereignty
A significant detriment to the principles offered here is prejudice. If we are to be really prepared to support these principles, we must have a means to overcome prejudice. That means is knowledge of the foundations of prejudice and how to use that knowledge to overcome it. In keeping with the principle of sentient sovereignty, this is personal knowledge - knowledge one can use oneself - not knowledge one can control others with. A prerequisite for understanding these intra-organismic and inter-organismic issues is understanding the structural elements of mobile organisms in their environments - the philosophy of mobile life . The perspective for these views is informed by the study of general semantics , which commands us to consider the organism in its environment as a whole , and the philosophy of simple life (working drafts).

One educator's positive review of Papert's book 'His philosophy of learning contrasts sharply with his depiction of schools' epistemology'.

THE CHILDREN'S MACHINE
Rethinking School in the Age of the Computer

by Seymour Papert, 1993
Basic Books, New York Children, computers, and learning: these are the themes Papert weaves together in The Children's Machine . According to Papert, we are entering the "age of learning" during which time the "competitive ability is the ability to learn". It is the revolution in technology that has simultaneously brought about the need for improvements in learning as well as providing the opportunity to improve "learning environments". New technologies will enhance learning particularly for children through "the creation of personal media capable of supporting a wide range of intellectual styles". Papert's philosophy of learning contrasts sharply with his depiction of schools' epistemology. According to Papert, schools should favour a more "partial", "qualitative", "interconnected" "personal", "concrete", "intuitive" "nonformalized" way of knowing. He draws on the field of Cybernetics with its epistemology of "managed vagueness" that considers "ways to make the best use of limited knowledge". "Bricolage" or tinkering is the idea he evokes to describe an image of "improvisational" learning with "self-directed activities" that ressemble play and that simulate "the way children learn in non-school settings".

Current Research
Here are some of the issues I am currently thinking about:
  • The relation between being justified and being able to justify one's beliefs. A "localist" account of justification, which holds (very roughly) that being justified is a matter of being able to draw upon one's background beliefs in appropriate ways to provide an adequate defense of believing as one does. The question of whether inferential justification requires belief (or justified belief) that the justifying reason is a good one and whether any unwelcome consequences would follow if it does. The epistemic basing relation: What is involved in holding a belief for a reason? I offer an account which links basing relations to the commitments undertaken in the course of one's deliberative and justificatory activity. Knowledge through testimony: What role, if any, does trust understood as an affective attitude, not as mere reliance play in the ordinary acquisition of knowledge through testimony, and what are the consequences for epistemology if it does play an essential role? External world skepticism Fallibilism The bearing of real-world circumstances on the adequacy of epistemic reasons
There is a very large story tying together my views on all these issues, but I don't yet know how to tell it in detail.
