Epilepsy Research provides for rapid publication of high quality articles in both experimental and clinical epileptology. It is intended to provide a forum for the many disciplines involved, such as neurology, neurosurgery, neurophysiology, neuropharmacology, neurochemistry, neuroanatomy, neuropathology, neuroendocrinology, neurotoxicology, neurogenetics, neuroimaging, neuropsychology, neuropsychiatry, molecular neurobiology, clinical chemistry and child neurology. As such the journal will publish original papers from any of these areas or studies of a multidisciplinary nature. Clinical and experimental research papers adopting fresh conceptual approaches to the study of epilepsy and its treatment are encouraged. The overriding criteria for publication are novelty, significant clinical or experimental relevance, and interest to a multidisciplinary audience in the broad arena of epilepsy.

Information about the diagnosis and treatment of feline seizures and felineepilepsy for the owners of cats who have had seizures.

Feline Seizures and Epilepsy
The intent of this page is to provide information for people whose cats have had seizures. Seizures are a serious problem, and a cat that has had a seizure should be taken to a veterinarian for proper diagnosis. A proper diagnosis may be expensive and may take some time, but there is usually an underlying cause that can be eliminated or appropriate treatment that can be prescribed. The information in this page is not meant to substitute for a veterinarian's advice, but to aid those who are trying to learn more about their cat's illness and to encourage owners of cats that have had seizures to have their cat's illness diagnosed as quickly as possible. More clinical information is available through the references at the bottom of this article. Note that this page is maintained at infrequent intervals. There are a number of URLs at the bottom of the page that may offer more helpful advice, including internet support groups. I welcome email suggesting updates to the page, but it may be some time before they are acted on.

Epilepsy
is stigmatised, overlooked, and misunderstood and has been throughout history. The truth is that over 1.5 million people in the UK will experience an epileptic seizure at some time in their lives. An even more alarmingfact is that an estimated 5 million will be caught up in its consequences. With correct early diagnosis by a neurologist specialising in epilepsy and the latest medication, 75%-80% of epilepsy sufferers could be seizure-free.
In 2000 in the UK, 1098 people died as a result of epilepsy 177 (up 120). SIX times more than HIV/AIDS 177 (down 18), illustrating the low profile, lack of celebrity support and scandalously low investment in epilepsy research to find better treatments and ways of prevention.

114. Neuroscience For Kids - Epilepsy
Unfortunately, this is what happens during epilepsy neurons in the People withepilepsy have seizures that are a bit like an electrical brainstorm.
http://faculty.washington.edu/chudler/epi.html
Epilepsy Epilepsy is NOT contagious and people with epilepsy are NOT "crazy." The word "epilepsy" comes from a Greek word meaning "to possess, seize or hold." Because the brain uses electrochemical energy , any disruption of the electrical processes in the brain may cause abnormal functioning. Unfortunately, this is what happens during epilepsy: neurons in the cerebral hemispheres misfire and create abnormal electrical activity. People with epilepsy have seizures that are a bit like an electrical brainstorm. The seizure prevents the brain from:
  • interpreting and processing incoming sensory signals (like visual, somatosensory and auditory information).
  • controlling muscles. That is why people with epilepsy may fall down and twitch.
Epilepsy is a fairly common neurological disorder. It occurs in about 1 in every 100-200 people. Throughout history there have been many famous people who have had epilepsy: Famous People with Epilepsy Julius Caesar - Roman Statesman (100-44 B.C.) Napoleon Bonaparte - Emperor of France (1769-1821) George Frederick Handel - Composer (1685-1759) Vincent van Gogh - Painter (1853-1890) Fyodor Dostoevski - Writer (1821-1881) Pius IX - Pope (1792-1878) Peter the Great - Russian Czar (1682-1725) Lord Byron - Poet (1788-1824)
Types of Epilepsy
There are many types of epilepsy. Each type of epilepsy has different behavioral effects and is treated with different methods. In some cases, people know they are about to have a seizure because they see or hear something, or feel dizzy, nauseous, or "strange." This is called an
