EPA Awards IAQ Contract to Environmental Education Foundation
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded a contract to the Environmental Education Foundation (EEF) to form a coalition of major players in the building design/construction and property management industry, including insurance and financial institutions. The purpose of the contract according to David Mudarri, Ph.D., Indoor Environments Division of the Environmental Protection Agency, "[is] to promote EPA's indoor air quality guidance and encourage its use as the basis for managing indoor environmental quality risks."
EEF's success in developing its own water intrusion and mold management program has positioned the organization to be a viable force in EPA's plans for managing indoor environmental quality risks. A combination of EPA's IAQ Building Education and Assessment Model (I-BEAM) software and EEF's water intrusion and mold management program are providing new guidance for any industry dealing with air quality issues. EEF will also develop a process to pilot test an EPA training module for the Integration of IAQ and Energy Efficiency in Well Managed Buildings, which is based on the 5-staged ENERGY STAR program and EEF will review EPA's IAQ Green Building Guidance.

In 1992, EPA awarded a grant to the University of Texas at Arlington to establish and operate an Air Pollution Training Center for state and local air pollution agency employees in the southwestern states. The University then provided and remodeled the facility now known as the Southwest Environmental Education Training Center (SWEET Center) to house this new Air Pollution Training Academy, which opened in February 1993.
The Center offers both on-campus and off-campus training for the environmental professional on a wide spectrum of air pollution issues. Topic areas include hazardous air pollutants, permitting, new source review, permit review of control devices, field evaluation of control devices, field evaluation of industrial ventilation systems, atmospheric dispersion modeling, continuous emissions monitoring, combustion system evaluation, and source sampling. Courses are developed and presented by national and international experts with direct experience in their topic areas and skill in the instruction of working professionals.

GREEN
The Global Rivers Environmental Education Network
GREEN helps young people protect the rivers, streams and other vital water resources in their communities. This program merges hands-on, scientific learning with civic action.
GREEN resources, including the curriculum Protecting Our Watersheds and water quality monitoring equipment, are available to educators across the country. GREEN training and support for educators is available through offices, affiliates and partners
Learn more about the GREEN program at www.green.org
History
GREEN was founded in the early 1980s on the belief that the study and protection of water resources is a unique learning opportunity for young people and is critical to the health of human beings and the environment. GREEN is a national network of schools and communities working together to meet critical water resource challenges through a combination of environmental education and civic action.
GREEN builds on national academic standards and teaches elementary, middle and high school-aged youth essential skills including critical thinking, teamwork, problem solving and the application of science to real world problems. Using proven scientific methods, GREEN teaches young people to assess the quality of their local water, using water monitoring equipment and conducting classroom research to understand the health of their watershed. Their research gives them the basis for applying scientific principles to create systemic solutions to the problems they identify—in short, to bring about changes in the policies and practices governing the use of water resources. GREEN became a program of Earth Force in 1999.

Environmental Education Institutions
The International Directory on Environmental Education Institutions is one of UNESCO's efforts to develop an international information network to facilitates an exchange of information, knowledge and materials on Environmental Education and Education for a Sustainable Future at large. This electronic version of the UNESCO Directory, offers a comprehensive list of EE training and research Institutions around the world. These comprise universities, research institutions, NGOs, training institutions and others. The basis for this directory was prepared in cooperation with UNEP and a first edition was published in 1971 with revisions in 1981 and 1989. Since then, Environmental Education has faced many changes in name and content and new institutions have adopted training and research programmes on environmental issues. To reflect these changes we found it necessary to publish a further version of the directory in 1995. We are now in the process of preparing a complete, up-do-date version for publication in English, French and Spanish, within the next two years for which we strongly depend on your corrections and/or comments A short description of the content:
The information is presented by region according to the United Nation Standard System and within these regions, countries are listed in alphabetical order.

Jennings offers a full range of educational programs. A unique attraction at the center is its relict prairie, which includes the spectacular and well-known prairie flower, the blazing star. The relict prairie ecosystem is rare in Pennsylvania. Visitors should try to visit in late July or early August when the pairie is in full bloom. Jennings Environmental Education Center is one of several state parks specifically dedicated to provide environmental education and interpretation to the community. A variety of programs are available for children, teachers, and the general public that increase knowledge and awareness of the beauty and importance of our natural resources. By taking some time to explore Jennings through its trail network or community programs, visitors can enjoy the outdoors while learning the skills needed to be good stewards of Pennsylvania’s outstanding natural resources. Jennings provides a unique combination of prairie and forest, which offers a wide array of resource and education opportunities. One of the park’s main features, the 20-acre prairie ecosystem, is home to distinctive prairie plants and the endangered massasauga rattlesnake. The most noteworthy and spectacular prairie flower is the blazing star. Jennings was the first reserve established in Pennsylvania to protect an individual plant species and remains the only public and protected prairie in the Commonwealth.
