Economic Benefits of Grassland Areas Report

What We Do
Our mission is to advance the creation of protected grassland natural areas and sustainable grassland communities on the Northern Great Plains through research, education and outreach. To help us advance this mission, we publish information and reports, sponsor speakers and organize public presentations, engage public officials, educators, and business and community leaders in dialogue and advocacy, and work to build collaborative relationships with individuals, groups and institutions. Creating protected grassland natural areas will not only benefit declining grassland wildlife, but will also help to create a more diversified rural economy. Working with community-based institutions and local people, and with your help, we can achieve the twin goals of habitat protection and rural community revitalization. Through our science-based conservation work, we hope one day that the diversity of wildlife that once roamed the grasslands of North American Great Plains will be restored on a system of grassland habitat complexes, created and managed through local public-private partnerships and funded by public and private sources and new entrepreneurial activities.

Toxics and Health:
Physicians for Social Responsibility extends our sympathy and condolences to the victims of Hurricane Katrina throughout the gulf coast of the United States. The public health fallout of one of the worst domestic natural disasters for a century is likely to worsen with each passing day, unless we all act soon. It also underscores the need for attention to critical domestic priorities in public health, the environment, and health care that PSR has been advocating.
Air Pollution and Health:
TWO NEW FACT SHEETS FROM PSR!! Learn about the contaminants in that salmon you're eating and about consuming the right amount of fish to satisfy your craving for omega-3 fatty acids! FISH and other SEAFOOD can play an important role in a good diet. Fish are a good source of vitamins and minerals. But, some fish absorb or ingest a lot of pollution like mercury and PCBs that can have serious health effects for you and your children. For more information, check out PSR's guide to healthy fish.
Chronic Disease and the Environment:
The CDC released the 2005 National Report on Human Exposure to Environmental Chemicals . PSR joined with public health advocates to provide in depth analysis of the data reported by CDC.

    The nature and structure of the Australian environment industry is unlike most other industry sectors. One distinguishing feature of the industry is its role in delivering improved environmental outcomes, which are shared by the whole community, often without direct cost to those who benefit. The industry also enables other businesses and industries to meet the community's expectations for improved environmental outcomes in a way that can improve the competitiveness of the business. The Department of the Environment and Heritage works with the Australian environment business sector, by:
    • Contributing to a greater understanding of Australia's environment industry capabilities; facilitating solutions to environment protection challenges using Australian environment technologies, products and services;

We apologize, but the page you are seeking
is temporarily unavailable. We are working to improve the security of BLM Websites and are restoring site elements as they are ready for reconnection. The BLM Website is an important aspect of customer service, and we take seriously our obligation to protect and ensure the integrity of our internal information systems and the online information we provide to our customers. Improving security in the short term will also allow the BLM to serve you better in the future. In addition, the BLM is currently involved in a court action in which the adequacy of information security is an issue. Failing to demonstrate adequate protections could result in a much longer-term, mandatory disconnection. As a consequence, it is imperative that all sites be properly secured and tested before being reconnected. Please log into the www.blm.gov
