History of Environmental management activities
We, Nippon Chemi-Con, have set "Promoting and implementing technologies that benefit society and the environment" as our corporate philosophy. We have aimed at making our corporate activities and environment conservation coexist with each other.
Up until the middle of 1990's, our environmental activities focused on pollution control and observance of laws and regulations. With the inception of ISO14001, we began working on establishing an environmental management system. Since 1995 we have instituted "ISO14001 certification acquisition Project", and constructed organizational structures that implement synthetic environmental policy. Toward ISO 14001 acquisition
Nippon Chemi-Con recognizes the importance of ISO14001 as the standard of the environmental activities for companies in the 21st century. We established master plans for ISO14001 certification acquisition in December 1995. It is our goal to have ISO14000 certification in all of our main factories in and out of Japan. Currently, we have gotten 21 locations ISO14000 certified. ISO14001 Certified Factories list

Gasoline
Over the past decade there has been considerable effort by government and industry directed towards providing cleaner gasoline for Canadians. Initiatives include the removal of lead and reductions of summer vapour pressure, benzene and sulphur levels. Many of the recent federal initiatives on gasoline were developed further to the recommendations of the CCME Task Force on Cleaner Vehicles and Fuels (October 1995) and as part of the process to determine an appropriate level of sulphur in gasoline and diesel The Benzene in Gasoline Regulations took effect in July 1999 and prohibit the supply of gasoline containing more than 1% benzene by volume. The regulations also prohibit the sale of gasoline that contains benzene at a concentration that exceeds 1.5% by volume. Suppliers of gasoline may elect to meet the requirements for benzene or the benzene emissions number on the basis of annual average limits. More on the Benzene in Gasoline Regulations The federal Sulphur in Gasoline Regulations take effect July 2002 and require an average gasoline sulphur concentration of 150 mg/kg as of July 2002 and 30 mg/kg as of January 2005. Environmental Reports The 21st century is being called the "Environment Century" and at NEC Infrontia we take very seriously our role in helping to protect the environment. NEC Infrontia has taken the following measures to better promote an "ecological society" society. Between December 1998 and December 1999 the international ISO14001 standard for environment management systems was obtained for all of our domestic and overseas production companies. We are promoting planned and sustainable environment control activities such as energy saving, recycling, waste reduction and management of chemical materials. Conventional product assessments are being further improved to provide "green products" with environment considerations. Since the second half of 1999, NEC Infrontia has been taking concrete actions such as expanding the inspection of the chemical substances found in parts and materials, further promoting energy savings and adopting lead-free soldering policies. In order to comply with the "Home Appliance Recycling Law" that will take effect in April 2001, NEC Infrontia has been working on designs promoting easier recovery, dismantling, and sorting.

Environmental Stewardship
Williams supports many environmental protection programs across the United States. In many instances, Williams partners with local, regional and national environmental groups to preserve, restore and create habitats and recreational areas. Our facilities have been recognized for reclaiming nature areas, creating wildlife habitats and enhancing biological diversity on company-owned land.
Projects include:
  • Gulfstream web site.
    Hackberry Flats Wildlife Management Area
Williams donated nearly 20 miles of surplus pipe worth $1 million to the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation for the Hackberry Flats Wildlife Management Area. The pipe is used to move water 17 miles to supply the 7,100-acre wildlife area. Former Oklahoma Governor Frank Keating and the North American Waterfowl Management Plan Committee recognized Williams for this significant contribution. Ducks Unlimited called the area "the most important wetlands restoration project in North America."
