Awards Toyota Environmental Activities Grant Program Names Recipients for FY2004 Toyota Motor Corporation and The Toyota Foundation announced on November 5, 2004 the selection of the FY2004 recipients for the Toyota Environmental Activities Grant Program. A total of 170 million yen will be awarded in grants to 16 organizations that were selected for FY2004. This means that in the five years since the program was initiated, 64 projects in 26 countries worldwide have been awarded a total of 910 million yen in grants. The program was established in commemoration of TMC receiving the Global 500 Award* in 1999 from the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) . It supports the activities of NPOs and other groups located throughout the world, and covers two areas of activities: environmental technology and environmental education. Applications for this year’s grants began in May, and a total of 196 applications were received marking a twofold increase over the previous year. The selection committee, consisting of a group of experts from Japan and abroad, based its selections on considerations of the business feasibility of the projects; the prospects of such activities for future development; their need for support; and how well they suited the needs of their local communities. The grants will support the activities of the recipients for a maximum of three years.
