http://www.schweizerbart.de/j/entomologia-generalis/
Scope
Entomologia Generalis is an international journal for general and applied entomology. It publishes papers on experimental, comparative and descriptive problems and studies in all fields of research on insects and other terrestrial arthropods. It aims to continually supply new information on the results of recent and current studies and promising theories in this science, relating simultaneously to various fields or closely connecting them. Entomologia Generalis emphasizes the publication of original research papers (6-20 printed pages). Furthermore, reviews of entomological problems (6-20 printed pages) are invited, as are summaries of high standard research results. Furthermore, short communications are published about new findings, ideas, observations etc, as well as exchanges of views and methods (2-5 printed pages). Finally, preview abstracts are presented of work which is being completed, but not yet ready for publication in a more extensive form (Synopses of 1-3 printed pages). Editor-in-Chief: Prof. Dr. August Wilhelm Steffan, Am Bergborn 1, 63599 Biebergemünd, Germany, Fax 06050 -912910, wilhelm.steffan@t-online.de

Welcome to the home page. There are three sections on this page. In this header, new additions or special features that may have been added or modified are indicated. In the middle section there is information for the current offering of the third year forest entomology course at UBC. The third section, where this web site originally started, are a series of linkages to web pages around the world that would be of interest to undergraduate and graduate students in forest entomology. They are grouped by the guilds insects belong to. There is a bias towards the economically significant insects but all insects are welcome. Aug 2004: Read an account of the spruce beetle outbreak in the Upper Bowron Valley in the late 1970's. Aug 2005: " FOREST PEST MANAGEMENT ", a chapter from the 2005 Fifth Edition of the UBC Forestry Handbook , by J.A.McLean, B.Van der Kamp, and A.L.Behennah. DESCRIPTIVE ENTRY
These records consist of administrative subject files and professional correspondence documenting the administration and activities of the Department of Entomology. Most of the records were created during the tenures of Chairmen Paul D. Hurd, Jr., 1971-1976; Donald R. Davis, 1976-1981; and Wayne N. Mathis, 1981-1987. A smaller portion of the records was created by earlier chairmen John Frederick Gates Clarke, 1963-1965, and Karl V. Krombein, 1965-1971, as well as by recent Chairman Ronald J. McGinley, 1987- . These records provide information about specimen collections; specimen acquisition, loan, and distribution; budgets; personnel; publications; professional meetings and societies; and research projects. Also included are a few early documents dating from before the 1963 establishment of the Department of Entomology. These early records come from either the Department's predecessor, the Division of Insects, or from United States Department of Agriculture entomologists working in the United States National Museum. Introduction Historical Note Descriptive Entry
INTRODUCTION
This correspondence (Record Unit 7309) was transferred to the Archives by the Insect Identification and Beneficial Insect Introduction Institute, United States Department of Agriculture, in 1980. Prior to its transfer to the Archives, the file was culled and certain correspondence was removed. Therefore, this guide provides access to only a fragment of the original file. The correspondence occupies 6.5 linear meters of shelf space.
HISTORICAL NOTE
The Systematic Entomology Laboratory (SEL), United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), is responsible for the identification of insect specimens. Its work provides basic support for biological control projects, environmental studies, and research activities of federal and state agencies and other organizations. SEL scientists are also active in research focused upon insect groups of economic importance to American agriculture. SEL maintains offices and laboratories at the National Museum of Natural History and at the Beltsville Agricultural Research Center, Beltsville, Maryland.
DESCRIPTIVE ENTRY
This collection contains the official correspondence of the Systematic Entomology Laboratory, USDA, and its predecessors, 1925 to 1973. The correspondence, which is both incoming and outgoing, mostly concerns the identification of specimens sent to the USDA for determination. Smaller amounts of correspondence document research projects of USDA taxonomists; the preparation of scientific publications; field work; and professional activities. Correspondents include domestic and foreign entomologists, government scientists, university professors, and USDA staff. Outgoing correspondence is usually signed by the USDA Entomologist in charge of the Division. Correspondence pre-dating 1925 primarily documents the professional career of Sievert Allen Rohwer and includes letters relating to his duties as Custodian of Hymenoptera, United States National Museum.

SFU Library Biological Sciences Collections Policy
Preamble The Department of Biological Sciences is a modern multidisciplinary department that offers graduate programs leading to the MSc. and PhD. degrees. In addition, the Department participates in the Master of Resource Management (MRM) program and offers the professional degrees of Master of Pest Management (MPM) and Master of Environmental Toxicology (MET).
Undergraduate and post baccalaureate programs are offered in Biological Sciences and Environmental Toxicology. Because of the interdisciplinary nature of the biological sciences the collections of the Departments of Biological Sciences, Kinesiology and Molecular Biology and Biochemistry overlap and are interdependent. In addition, the Departments of Biological Science and Molecular Biology and Biochemistry will be jointly responsible for certain courses. Research in the Department of Biological Sciences ranges from basic studies at the molecular level to applied research in environmental biology. There are concentrations of faculty expertise in molecular biology and biochemistry, behavioural ecology, animal and plant physiology, and marine biology. These basic research areas are complemented by applied areas such as agricultural and forest pest management, and environmental toxicology. Individual faculty members in the Department of Biological Sciences have organized themselves into various groups, listed below.

Graduate Study in Entomology
Program Information The University of Manitoba has the only Entomology Department in Canada. The department has strong links with agricultural and environmental research organizations in Winnipeg and across Canada, and is uniquely positioned to provide comprehensive graduate training in entomological research. The department offers both M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees. In both M.Sc. and Ph.D. programs, students must achieve a high standard in a research project and in a thesis reporting their results. Students must also take some course work, including a course intended to develop written and oral communications skills, to promote critical thinking and to provide exposure to diverse fields of entomology and related sciences. Graduates of the Ph.D. from the Department of Entomology occupy academic positions in a number of universities in Canada and elsewhere, others occupy senior scientist positions with Agriculture Canada, Environment Canada, or other government research and regulatory agencies. Graduates of the M.Sc. program have proceeded to Ph.D. programs elsewhere, while others have entered the workforce following their M.Sc. degree. A high proportion of insect extension specialists in provincial governments in western Canada are graduates of the department's M.Sc. program. Other recent graduates have positions as forest and prairie management ecologists, careers in agribusiness, producer organizations or pesticide companies, or technical positions in research organizations.
