I've got my learners, today, and I went driving! Just a quick background, I'm the gurl in our school that every1 is afraid of when it comes to driving.. I can be reckless in sports, etc., and just this summer learned the difference between the pedal and the brakes (in a car)!! .. I'm the one everyone has decided will surely fail drivers ed, and still not have her license at age 30. Well, me, the bad-driver-never-will-drive, *ME,* i got 100% on the test, and now have a learners license. This means I can drive whenever I want with one of my parents.. until I'm 16. Of course, being excited, I had to drive as soon as possible. Much to my dismay, today was Wednesday and I had badminton and then basketball practise. Finally, after that, I called mom to come pick me up, so that *i* could drive home. THe first thing she said? "Oh, you can't do that!" in a rather serious tone. Had to explain I had my learners, now, I could drive. Well, she came, threw me the keys, and got in the passengers side. She wouldnt *not* stop laughing at me. When i finally pulled out of the parking lot (15 mins later), she told me i should move over a bit; that was her nice way of saying I was driving on the wrong side of the road :P OoOps!~

June 6, 1993 This month's FHC letter is a set of loosely related discussions which come from further discussions of last month's discussion of "Certification", a paper our son wrote expanding some of those concepts, and a letter we received from the US Taxpayer's Party. The CHEO Convention (Christian Home Educator's of Ohio) is in July as well as a family wedding. Consequently, you probably won't hear from us again until August or September depending upon what the Lord gives us to share. Teaching not Testing This article comes from a piece written by our eldest son. We have added some examples to the end, but the work is primarily his. Many homeschooling families have problems with certain children. They say (and often rightly so) that this child just does not have a desire to learn, views schoolwork as a bore, and just doesn't seem very academically oriented. Following is one diagnosis that in some cases may prove to be helpful. The problem lies in expecting a child to do that which he has not been taught to do. When he was in first grade (or perhaps subsequent grades), he had particular difficulty doing a creative writing assignment. While there may have been other issues involved, one basic problem was that he was told to write this story when he did not have the foggiest idea how to begin. This was repeated throughout his school experience.

Weblog Main Archives Classic Entries Chinese January 7th, 2005 A Cheat-proof Exam Cheating and Chinese Students ZUCC Throughout my 7 semesters of teaching spoken English at ZUCC, my class format never stopped evolving. I just want to share some of the major evolutions here and the reasoning behind the changes. At the root of the changes were always two questions: (1) and (2) How will I assess the students (i.e. grade them) My first semester I relied heavily on vocabulary useful idiomatic expressions and slang. Nothing tricky. I moved on to a skit -based class. Vocabulary was still important, but grading was based on the use of vocabulary and overall spoken English in performed skits instead of on paper. My students felt very awkward about performing at first, but soon got really into it and had a lot of fun. I came to understand that as boring as they can sometimes be, discussions The advantages of the system are as follows: The students have no way to cheat.
