Lorax - Conservation Laws Homework help
Hi, I'm having a few problems with my Homework I'll post one question for now then if I find out where I got stuck I'll go on to my next question. Alright...
"A 1500kg car accelerates up a hill in an attempt to pass a semi truck, it had an initial velocity of 12m/s if accelerated at a rate of 2m/s^2 for the 180m up the slope. If the hill had a vertical height of 15m and ther was 400j of work done by the friction how much work was done by the cars engine?"
Alright, well I know the Mass, Vi, A, D, G, H, and Vf and the W done by the friction.
But I'm a little unsure about how to go about figuring this question out. If someone could start me off that would be great. Discuss Conservation Laws Homework help Here, Free!
Parth Dave - Conservation Laws Homework help
First of all, energy must be conserved (as you suggested). So, try to find an expression for the initial energy and the final energy. Discuss Conservation Laws Homework help Here, Free!

1. A 75KG man stands in a 100kg rowboat at rest in still water. He faces the back of the boat and throws a 5kg rock out of the back at a speed of 20 m/s. The boat recoils forward 4.2 m..
Calculate the initial recoil spped of the boat, the loss in mecahnical energy due to friction, the effective coefficient of friction.
Ok, what throws me off is that 4.2 meters that it recoils....
2. A 0.3kg puck, at rest, is struck by a 0.2 kg puck moving along the xaxis with a speed of 2 m/'s. After the collision, the 0.2 kg puck has a speed of 1 m/s at an angle of 53 degrees to the xaxis. Find the velocity of the 0.3kg puck after the collision, find the fraction of KE lost in the collision.
Momentum would be equal before and after right? Discuss Homework help Here, Free!

02-02-2005, 07:57 AM Can you please help me understand my homework?
This is about Le Chateliers principle...
I have this equilibrium reaction:
In which direction will the reaction go if you:
1) increase pressure?
2) increase temperature?
thank youu 02-02-2005, 12:38 PM 1) well, it depends on the state of H2O, is it in gasous state? or liquid?
if it is vapor, increseing pressure will not affect the equilibrium, since both side have the same amout of molecules.
if it is in liquid state, incresing pressure will shift the equilibrium to the left, since increasing pressure favors a lesser volume.
(i doubt that H2O is in liquid state though, since CO2 will establish another equilibrium with water and forms H2CO3... )
2) increasing temperature will increase the kinetic energy of the system, which can be counted as one of the "product", thus the equilbrium will shift to the left. 02-02-2005, 12:48 PM 2) increasing temperature will increase the kinetic energy of the system, which can be counted as one of the "product", thus the equilbrium will shift to the left.
