Recommended Best Practices for Internet Service Providers and Other Network Operators
  • All Canadian registrants and hosts of domain names should publish Sender Policy Framework (SPF) information within their respective Domain Name Server (DNS) zone files as soon as possible.
ISPs and other network operators should limit, by default, the use of port 25 by end-users. If necessary, the ability to send or receive mail over port 25 should be restricted to hosts on the provider's network. Use of port 25 by end-users should be permitted on an as-needed basis or as set out in the provider's end-user agreement / terms of service.
ISPs and other network operators should block email file attachments with specific extensions known to carry infections or filter email file attachments based on content properties.
ISPs and other network operators should actively monitor the volume of inbound and outbound email traffic to determine unusual network activity and source of such activity, and respond appropriately.
ISPs and other network operators should establish and consistently maintain an effective and timely to allow compromised network elements to be managed and eliminated as a source of spam.

    Jul 19 '00
Five? You want free email? You want email that arrives on time? Email that is easily accessible and rarely gives you problems? Ok, not too difficult for this incredibly frequent email user to to provide the some options.
First of all, what do I look for in an email account?
    1. Accessibility. Can I get my mail from anywhere? Can I get it quickly? Can I get through the sign in process in no time at all?
    2. Compatibility. Do I have to do something to format what I am sending so the receiving end can read or see it?
    3. Free. I do not ever want to have to pay for an email address. There are too many free email options to be paying.
    4. Reliability. Is the site always up and working or do I find out about something three days after I should have because the email took forever to arrive? What I do not want in an email account: 1. Spam!

The following release is provided via PRWEB. Is AOL, MSN, and Yahoo going too far to curb the dearth of SPAM? This Press Release points to a case that can be made that says they definately are. (PRWEB) January 27 2004eMedia, LLC, the company that owns the http://www.CrapOnMe.com website, today announces that it has posted on its http://www.CrapOnMe.com website an intriguing and informative editorial that begs the question: "Are Free eMail Providers Guilty Of Censorship?" The Editorial, in it’s entirety, can be seen at: http://www.craponme.com/editor-show.php?ed=5825.
Conceived by the President of eMedia LLC, http://www.CrapOnMe.com is a site where people have the opportunity to describe how other people have crapped on them. Said Jim J. Hobuss, President of eMedia, LLC, “I wanted this to be a fun site. First and foremost, it is entertaining. It has appeal to people who have been crapped on by others because it gives them an opportunity to vent. It has appeal to the people who are considering having a relationship with a person or business because it allows them to see how that person or business has treated other people. And, it is really entertaining to spend a few minutes every day reading some of the stories that people have to tell. The Editorial pages are a place where people can write their opinions about things, without necessarily complaining about how and why they feel abused.”

    http://www.ufsa.ufl.edu/ovp/gatorlinkfaq/
    Frequently Asked Questions
    about the changes in GatorLink
With the changes in the ability to forward your GatorLink email to non-UF email addresses, it is important for you to understand the options you have to check email sent to your GatorLink email account. This FAQ was developed to answer questions and provide information to assist you in configuring your email client so you stay connected to the University of Florida
Why is UF changing the email forwarding policy?
We have all experienced the impact of SPAM. Under the old UF email policy students where allowed to forward their email to other mail servers. When SPAM arrived at the GatorLink mail server destined for a particular user, the GatorLink mail server would turn around and send it to the mail forwarding address for that user. To the outside world all SPAM that arrived at the GatorLink email server and was forwarded to other mail servers made it appear that UF was the sender of a large amount of SPAM.

    60. Geobytes 'm... Frequently Asked Questions
What if I change ISPs or email providers? If you change your ISP or email provider you will need to update your server information in your Account settings.
    http://m.geobytes.com/faq.html
Overview Setup Pricing CaseKeys ... Screen Shots Overview What is Geobytes
Geobytes is the most advanced Spam killer available today. It utilizes two unique technologies that are only available in the Geobytes Spam solution. Why not download a free Bayesian Spam filter, or use mail rules such as those available within Microsoft Outlook?
The problem with Bayesian filters and rules based filters is that the "Filter" will generate "false negatives" as they call them - which means that the filter will occasionally mistake a legitimate message as Spam, and accordingly miss filter it into the junk folder. Knowing this the users of these filters have two options - 1. Ignore it - and just accept that some legitimate email will be lost, or 2. Regularly check their junk folder for missed messages. Most users choose the second option as they really don't want to lose any legitimate messages. The problem with the second option is that the user is still exposing themselves to all of the Spam, with the only difference being that it is now in a different folder. This is the problem with all filters
    - even if they are 99.9% accurate (miss 1/1000) then the users still needs to expose themselves to 100% of the Spam. (In reality, not many, if any, Bayesian filters are even close to 99.9% accurate, but even if they were, you would still find yourself looking through all of your Spam, so what is the good of it?)
