SCHOOL OF MUSIC- Composition, Electronic Music, and Music Theory
Music Theory and Composition Curriculum
The curriculum is designed to prepare exceptionally talented students for careers as theorists or composers, or for continued study or graduate work in theory or composition. The curriculum focuses on basic musicianship skills, a nalytical, aural, and writing skills; compositional facility and technique; and the acquisition of a historical perspective on, and basic knowledge of technological innovations in the field. Music composition at Ohio University is taught in private or semi private lessons with a major professor or visiting composer-in residence. Six quarters of private study are required for the undergraduate composition degree, while the master's degree requires three quarters. Both degrees culminate with a significant final composition project (Senior Project or Masters Thesis). Student composition recitals provide valuable opportunities for young composers to hear their music performed. An annual competition provides students with the opportunity for a performance of their music by the university orchestra. Student composers are also encouraged to take advantage of opportunities at Ohio University outside the School of Music, such as composing music for student films, videos, theater productions, and dance concerts . Both degrees also have an electronic music component, as well as instruction in instrumentation and orchestration.
Graduate student composers take 12 credit hours of advanced courses in music theory, history, and literature, determined in part by their individual interests and their entrance examinations.

E-mail is not just electronic mail sent via the internet. E-mail communication creates a psychological space in which pairs of people - or groups of people - interact. It creates a context and boundary in which human relationships can unfold. Basic Features: The Nuts and Bolts of E-mail Communication Typed Text (TextTalk) - People type words to communicate via e-mail. More technologically sophisticated methods enable you to incorporate pictures and sounds into the message, but that's a more complex process that some people avoid. It's the simplicity and ease of use that attracts many people to e-mailing. On the other hand, some people may not like e-mail BECAUSE it involves typing. While everyone knows how to talk, not everyone knows how to type. Some people also may not feel comfortable or skilled in expressing themselves through writing. The typing/writing barrier filters some people out of the e-mail world. For those who love to write, e-mail is heaven. It's even possible that there is a difference in cognitive style between people who love to communicate with written words and those who don't. "

Email Scanning Services
Counterpane's Email Scanning services, powered by MessageLabs, proactively protect against spam, viruses, and other malware threats entering your network, and enable enforcement of email security policies regarding image and text content in inbound and outbound email traffic. With no additional hardware or software, our dynamic, perimeter-based solution dramatically reduces email attacks and abuse while lowering the cost of managing your email security.
The Problem
Email security is no longer about installing software at the server and PC level. These solutions are only effective once a threat is known. By that time the damage may already have been done. Integrating the right solution into other critical security processes and reporting functions, as required by auditors, is a challenge for many organizations.
The Solution
A proactive and predictive security service that scans for threats and unwanted content outside your company's network is the best way to ensure your organization is protected. Counterpane's Email Scanning services provide clean email inboxes, control over email policies, and better management of network traffic loads and audit reporting directly via Counterpane's Web Portal.
