Ancient Egypt
Ancient Egyptian history covers a continuous period of over three thousand years. To put this in perspective - most modern countries count their histories in hundreds of years. Only modern China can come anywhere near this in terms of historical continuity.
Egyptian culture declined and disappeared nearly two thousand years ago. The last vestiges of the living culture ceased to exist in AD 391 when the Byzantine Emperor Theodosius I closed all pagan temples throughout the Roman Empire.
It was not until Napoleon's invasion of Egypt in 1798 that the wonderful artefacts of the Egyptians were seen in Europe and their ancient culture began to awaken from its long slumber. On this site you will find lots of Egyptian stuff. There are stories of the great and in the section you can explore the ancient monuments; using interactive maps, photos, drawings, and paintings.

I have to admit that I did not give the exact translation that these words are supposed to mean (in this case at least), I just gave you the possible meanings of these Egyptian hieroglyphs for you to guess. Really. Have a look at the list and let me know your guesses through the contact form.

Science IMPORTANT New Structure for the Ancient History Sourcebook Since January 24 1999, the Internet Ancient History Sourcebook has been completely reorganized. Each of the main sections had became too large to maintain as one file. To see the new arrangement go to the Main Index The three older index files were called Ancient Near East Greece Rome (asbook3.html). All remained available until October 2000, but have now been removed. Too many links had gone bad, and as such the pages generated too many complaints about bad links, even though there was indication that they were no longer being updated and updated linkes were available within the new structure. For all texts it is now necessary to use the new structure. SECTIONS Subjects covered by the source texts in each Section. Studying Ancient History

Carnegie Museum of Natural history has acquired egyptian artifacts since its Museum of Natural history and visit The Walton Hall of ancient egypt.
http://www.carnegiemuseums.org/cmnh/exhibits/egypt/
Welcome to Life in Ancient Egypt, an introduction to The Walton Hall of Ancient Egypt at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History. Carnegie Museum of Natural History has acquired Egyptian artifacts since its founding and now holds about twenty-five-hundred ancient Egyptian artifacts. The most significant of these objects, over six hundred of them, are displayed in The Walton Hall of Ancient Egypt. In the hall the artifacts are displayed in relation to the daily life and traditions of the people who made them, so that the objects are seen in the context of the culture. To present a cohesive picture of ancient Egyptian society, its technology, its social system, and its beliefs, we have arranged the objects in several thematic areas. Life in Ancient Egypt, however, presents the themes in a slightly different order than the hall. You may choose from the links to the left or follow the suggested path by clicking the Next button on each screen. We hope you have the opportunity to come to the Carnegie Museum of Natural History and visit The Walton Hall of Ancient Egypt.

Issues in women's history in ancient and classical times: Egypt, Greece, Rome, Israel, the Near East and more.
Alphabetical
Recent Books on Women in Prehistory The role of women in prehistory is a subject of wide popular interest. Dahlberg's challenge of "man the hunter" as the primary catalyst for human civilization is now classic. Marija Gimbutas' theories of the ancient culture of Old Europe, before the invasion of warlike Indo Europeans, is the foundation for much of the more popular literature. Read these and more skeptical views for perspective. Posters of Goddesses Choose from among these posters of goddesses, some from Renaissance art, or art deco, or more modern images. Ancient Women Warriors Ancient History Guide, N. S. Gill, documents key women warriors of the ancient world.
