This guide is sponsored by the American Economic Association . It lists more than 1,600 resources in 97 sections and sub-sections available on the Internet of interest to academic and practicing economists, and those interested in economics. Almost all resources are also described. In selecting these resources, I exercise some editorial judgment and select items that either offer a substantial amount of information, or are specialized to a given area. A particularly good place to look for a broader array of business and economic resources is WebEc The Complete Table of Contents is for those who want a list of all resources in this guide. From there you can go to a resource quickly simply click on its name. A link to an extended description here in RFE is denoted by "details..." As the Complete Table of Contents is quite large, there is also an Abridged Table of Contents that just lists RFE's sections and sub-sections. One can also

Great Economists and Their Times
This publication traces the development of the major schools of economic thought through the work of ten important economists. These economists were the leading exponents of their schools, and their ideas represent the major contributions to economic thought made by each school. A chronicle of historical events recounts the politics, social environment and intellectual climate of each decade in which the famous economists lived. (1990)

Significant Points
  • Quantitative skills are important in all economics specialties.
  • Employment of economists is expected to grow about as fast as the average; most new jobs will arise in private industry, including economic research and consulting firms.
  • Candidates who hold a master’s or Ph.D. degree in economics will have the best employment prospects and advancement opportunities.
Nature of the Work About this section Back to Top Economists study how society distributes scarce resources such as land, labor, raw materials, and machinery to produce goods and services. They conduct research, collect and analyze data, monitor economic trends, and develop forecasts. They research issues such as energy costs, inflation, interest rates, exchange rates, business cycles, taxes, or employment levels. Economists devise methods and procedures for obtaining the data they need. For example, sampling techniques may be used to conduct a survey, and various mathematical modeling techniques may be used to develop forecasts. Preparing reports, including tables and charts, on research results is an important part of an economist’s job. Presenting economic and statistical concepts in a clear and meaningful way is particularly important for economists whose research is directed toward making policies for an organization. Some economists might also provide economic analysis to the media.

    Preamble
Agent-based computational economics (ACE) is the computational study of economies modelled as dynamic systems of interacting agents. ACE is thus a specialization to economics of the basic artificial life (alife) paradigm. Below is a brief introduction to alife and ACE. A more extended version of this introduction is given in Tesfatsion (1997a), available online in postscript format (220K) or pdf format (560K) . Thanks to A. De Vany, J. Duffy, D. Fogel, J. Gray, R. Noll, B. Routledge, and especially N. Vriend for helpful comments.

I have gathered these jokes from various sources, e.g. news, friends, readers of this page, etc. Unfortunately I wasn't able to list all the persons who invented these jokes which would probably be impossible. Therefore, I will not give the sources unless someone asks for it. All the following jokes are somehow related to the profession of economists. Though some jokes are more general and economist could be substituted with some else profession I try to maintain the "purity" of the page. No joke is completely politically correct even if I try to avoid personal or dirty jokes. Therefore, if you are afraid of being offended please do not continue. Otherwise, relax and be my guest!
