Research Global Economics Paper No. 99: Dreaming with BRICs: The Path to 2050 Over the next 50 years, Brazil, Russia, India and China-the BRICs economies-could become a much larger force in the world economy. We map out GDP growth, income per capita and currency movements in the BRICs economies until 2050. The results are startling. If things go right, in less than 40 years, the BRICs economies together could be larger than the G6 in US dollar terms. By 2025 they could account for over half the size of the G6. Of the current G6, only the US and Japan may be among the six largest economies in US dollar terms in 2050. The list of the world's ten largest economies may look quite different in 2050. The largest economies in the world (by GDP) mayno longer be the richest (by income per capita), making strategic choices for firms more complex.

Introduction The emergence of an information economy and globalization have been observed and discussed for decades, whether in the context of the worldwide distribution of films, television shows, and music, or the expansion of multinational corporations and global brands such as McDonald's, Coca-Cola, MTV, and Globo. The Internet and its rapid growth worldwide has caused a great deal of excitement, not least because the net seems to have the power to realize the metaphor of the 'global village' popularized by Marshall McLuhan in the 1960s (McLuhan, 1996). Tens of millions of people can now communicate directly with each other . Of course, the global telephone network already reaches perhaps a billion people, and television events such as the 1998 World Cup reach far more than that. But the true power of the net is not just being able to engage in more intensive one-on-one communication, but in flexible, variable, one-to-many, and many-to-many, forms of communication. In Internet terms, every sender is also a receiver. And vice versa.

Politics is the control of the economy. History, when accurately and fully recorded, is that story. In most textbooks and classrooms, not only are these three fields of study separated, but they are further compartmentalized into separate subfields, obscuring the close interconnections between them. India sees "significant" improvement in its business environment

The quality of India's business environment and its private sector have improved in recent years, according to Augusto-Lopez Claros of the World Economic Forum, before the upcoming launch of The Global Competitiveness Report on 28 September.
However, education is a key weakness that could hold back higher growth rates, said Lopez-Claros, as illiteracy rates are high and enrolment is low in all levels of education.
