The Langseth Design Team Focused on WEB Development To Contents Abstract
Abstract
As data architects, we do data analysis and denormalized data warehouse design using some of the latest tools. Our favorites include MicroStrategy, ER/Studio and Microsoft's Visual Studio.net. We write stored procedures and triggers for SQL Server databases using Transact SQL. Our goal is to build this site into a focal point to support economic development over the Web, broadcasting data (and work) to remote devices, including personal computers and PDAs. Another area of focus is health care data analysis and planning. We have experience with HIPAA and 21 CFR 11 planning, programming and documentation. We have a mission to support economic development through telecommuting with on-line database support. Initiatives include working with Indian people (Native Americans) and other remote peoples living in isolated regions to link these peoples to jobs on the Web. We link database technologies with the Web to transport data entry and analysis tasks to those who need to telecommute. We believe that the remote processing of graphics is an ideal telecommuting task. When Justin Langseth established EIS as a leading worldwide bulletin-board product in the early 1980s, it was accepted by the publishing industry as a vehicle to transport print-ready files from place to place. Now, we envision remote peoples formatting and enhancing photos and other graphics via the Web.

Home Cymraeg Site map About CAFOD ... Where we work Latin America
Latin America
CAFOD spent £3,200,000 in Latin America in 2003-04 CAFOD began work in the region in the early 1960s, supporting local partners to improve the nutrition of young children on the island of Dominica. Since then, CAFOD's partners in the region have faced huge challenges, from civil conflict and widespread human rights abuses to devastating natural disasters such as Hurricane Mitch in 1998 and the earthquakes in El Salvador in 2001.
Key challenges
  • Poor human rights record
People tortured by authoritarian and military regimes, or whose family members are among the thousands of 'disappeared', for example in Chile and El Salvador, have received no justice or compensation for their loss. Indigenous peoples - whose tribal land has been collectively held for centuries - want to keep their culture alive but are often denied their rights. For example in Brazil, the land and cultural rights of many indigenous people, such as the Guarani, Awá, and Yanomami, are under serious threat.
  • Conflict and peace building
Many of the region's recent wars and civil conflicts have ended, but they have left people traumatised. In El Salvador 80,000 people were killed out of a population of six million during its civil war.

Bush, Democrats face off on economic stimulus
WASHINGTON (CNN) President Bush on Saturday urged Congress to end weeks of delays and quickly approve a stimulus bill to help revive the nation's struggling economy, using his weekly radio address to pressure lawmakers who have been feuding over what form the package should take. Meanwhile, Democrats responded by accusing Republicans of "playing politics" with the stimulus package. In the Democratic weekly radio address, Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nevada, said the stimulus package approved in the Republican-controlled House of Representatives provided huge tax cuts for big business but does "virtually nothing" to help workers laid off because of the weak economy. The package has been stalled in the Senate, where Democrats are pushing for funds to extend unemployment and health care benefits for workers who have lost jobs during the economic downturn that began last year. Republicans are pushing for more tax cuts, such as one month Social Security payroll tax holiday and tax cuts for businesses.

For purposes of its organic certification program, the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) defines organic farming as "a system of ecological soil management that relies on building humus levels through crop rotations, recycling organic wastes, and applying balanced mineral amendments and that uses, when necessary, mechanical, botanical, or biological controls with minimum adverse effects on health and the environment" (

Approximately one-fifth of the world's population, over one billion people, earns less than $1.00 a day. According to the 1998 UN World Development Report , the three richest people in the world own assets that exceed the combined Gross Domestic Products of the world's 48 poorest countries, and Forbes Magazine reports that 358 billionaires had a combined net worth equal to the combined income of the bottom 45 percent of the world's population. Each day, over a billion people in the world lack basic food needs. And each day 35,000 children under the age of five die of starvation or preventable infectious disease. Furthermore the problems of growing inequality, poverty, and hunger are getting worse in spite of the huge surge of global economic growth over the past 50 years. In this section will will address the issues of the amount of food in the world, the role it plays in a capitalist economy, why people are poor, and what measures can be taken to eliminate poverty and hunger.
