Welcome to the Indigo Development Research and Development Center. Indigo is a research and consulting organization creating systems solutions to meet major challenges of sustainable development. Indigo functions as an action oriented think tank linking the conceptual design of our innovations with strategic plans for implementation. In these pages you can learn about industrial ecology (IE) and how we are applying it to issues of sustainability.
Briefly, industrial ecology is an interdisciplinary framework for designing and operating industrial systems as living systems that are interdependent with natural systems. We view public and private services, urban design, and agriculture as fields that can benefit from IE. Industrial ecology's primary goal is to Abalance environmental and economic interests within emerging understanding of local and global ecological constraints. To achieve this goal industrial ecologists must also coordinate with the social dimension of sustainable development.
Indigo Development creates systems solutions to meet the challenges of sustainable development through industrial ecology:
  • We played a leading role in creating the eco-industrial park (EIP) concept, an application of IE now being implemented at sites in the US and overseas. Download our
