Well, a lot of people on the web have volunteered their expertiese to help you find these answers. The volume of questions these people receive, however, can sometimes overwhelm them and some have had to stop taking questions. So let's give them a break and follow some simple rules.
  • Always make an effort to find the answer yourself, either through the World Wide Web or in your local library. Nearctica is a very good place to look first. Many of these "Ask an Expert" sites have archives of questions already asked and answered.
  • Make your question short and to the point.

1520 Impact of Climate Change.
This paper will look at the coin of climate change, where on the one side the human impact on the earth will be shown, and on the other, the impact of earth on man. Such a study is inevitably somewhat polemical, as it is still open to debate what the precise effects of man have and will be on climate change, and also what climate change will mean to man. It will also be quite general in analysis, as a paper of this scope can allow no more. What will be made clear, nevertheless, is that the relationship between man and earth is clearly changing. More specifically, man is outgrowing the earth. If the relationship is to continue indeed prosper then a new balance needs to be found. The issue of climate change holds one important key to this balance. 14.5 pgs. 30 f/c. 7b.

1614 The Origins of The Earth.
This paper is about the creation of the universe, and more particularly about the earth and its early development. To date, no conclusive answer has been drawn about the events of 10-20 billion years ago when the universe came into existence. The whole idea of the 'big bang' is still a matter of debate for scholars, and this paper will attempt to do no more than touch on some of the commonly held ideas about the origins of the universe and the earth. The paper will discuss a few of the events that followed the creation of the universe and the earth, and to explain events as they are currently understood. The format of the paper will be as follows: first, it will discuss the formation of the universe; second, the earth in some detail, looking at the creation of the oceans and the atmosphere; third, it will conclude with an overview of the topic at hand. 10 pgs. 31 f/c. 5b.

READINGS CLASS SCHEDULE
OBJECTIVES:
Behavioral Ecology is still a young discipline whose goal is to explain why animals look, behave, and distribute themselves as they do. It is closely related to the study of adaptation and relies on theory from evolutionary biology, including the sub-fields of sexual selection and life histories. Its empirical strengths are comparative and experimental.
The major objective of this course is to evaluate behavioral ecology's accomplishments, shortcomings, and future directions. By the time the course is over I hope you will have a firm grasp of the basic concepts in this field and be familiar with the classic studies. I also hope that you will also be aware of current controversies and perhaps elect to pursue research that will help to resolve them.
A third course objective is to develop your abilities to analyze the literature critically, to engage in scientific debate, and to make use of your colleagues (both students and faculty) as springboards for trying out new ideas. I will strive to create an environment in which participants are willing to risk themselves intellectually, think creatively, and generate new perspectives on current issues in behavioral ecology.
FORMAT
The class will consist of lectures by Ketterson, informal and formal presentations by visiting experts, and student-led discussions. The highlight of this year's class will be the four outstanding behavioral ecologists who will visit the campus, meet with you individually, and use class-time to describe their research.

T he Center for the Integrative Study of Animal Behavior receives many queries from individuals asking for information about potential careers in the field of animal behavior and about the type of training required. While we do not have the personnel necessary to answer each individual query, we hope you'll find the information offered here a useful starting place. The text below was written by the Education Committee of the Animal Behavior Society . Links to additional resources compiled by CISAB are located at the bottom of the page.
WHAT IS ANIMAL BEHAVIOR?
A nimal behavior is the scientific study of everything animals do, whether the animals are single-celled organisms, insects, birds, mammals, fish, or humans. However, human behavior is more often studied by psychologists, anthropologists, human ethologists, or other social scientists.
T he field of animal behavior is concerned with understanding the causes, functions, development, and evolution of behavior. The causes of behavior include all of the stimuli that affect behavior, whether external (food or predators) or internal (hormones or nervous system changes). The function of behavior include both the immediate effects of behavior on an animal (such as attracting a mate), and the adaptive significance of the behavior in a particular environment (such as huddling together in cold weather). The development of behavior is concerned with the ways in which behavior changes over the lifetime of an animal. The evolution of behavior is concerned with origins of behavior patterns and how these change over generations of animals.
