This webpage gets updated each year with new software and lesson possibilities.
There is a lot here to browse!
OVERVIEW Every year in Sunday School we teach the important events of Jesus' life, death and resurrection. Over the years, you'll most likely collect several different "Jesus CDs" that you can mix and match to pull off your lessons. Thus, this webpage mentions lesson ideas for many of those programs. Which one you choose will depend on what program you have, and what you need to be teaching this year. Typically, a Lenten study begins with the Baptism and Temptation of Jesus. Lent ideas for the Baptism and Temptation of Jesus are at the BOTTOM of this page . Most of the suggestions on this page have to do with Holy Week. One other good resource to consult is my Jesus Cross Reference webpage. It lists ALL the Jesus stories found in various software programs we recommend. Please note: this running list of suggestions may include references to programs that have gone out of print. We continue to mention them because many of our customers have those programs. For example: Footsteps of Jesus and Disciple's Diary CDs.

PREPARATION: Take three Easter Egg coloring cups and mark them with these patterns: ta ta/ ti-ti ta/ and ti-ti ti-ti. Make 20 or more (enough for your biggest class) Easter Eggs (I use Printshop) with a design on one side, a picture of an Easter word(s) on the other) and the word(s) written out. Laminate the eggs.
EXAMPLES:
Ta-ta: egg hunt, bunny, candy Ti-ti ta: jelly beans, Easter egg, daffodils Ti-ti-ti-ti: Easter basket, choc'late candy, bunny rabbit PROCEDURE: Seat kids in circle on the floor. Teacher goes first, says his/her egg's words and taps on knees, then puts his/her egg in the right cup (all cups are in the middle of the circle). Play proceeds to the child on teacher's left and around the circle. Only the child whose turn it is may speak, tap the rhythm on knees or floor. When the game is over, teacher takes each cup and has the class answer "yes" or "no" to determine correct responses in each cup. NO ONE MAY POINT OUT INDIVIDUAL ERRORS; THIS IS A CLASS EFFORT

The Easter Letter to Oklahoma City.
Paul, a slave of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God, which he promised previously through his prophets in the holy scriptures, the gospel about his Son, descended from David according to the flesh, but established as Son of God in power according to the spirit of holiness through resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord. Through him we have received the grace of apostleship, to bring about the obedience of faith, for the sake of his name, among all the Gentiles, among whom are you also, who are called to belong to Jesus Christ; to all the beloved of God in Oklahoma City, called to be holy.
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. First, I give thanks to my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is heralded throughout the world. God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in proclaiming the gospel of his Son, that I remember you constantly. I give thanks to my God always on your account for the grace of God bestowed on you in Christ Jesus, that in him you were enriched in every way, with all discourse and all knowledge, as the testimony to Christ was confirmed among you, so that you are not lacking in any spiritual gift as you wait for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ. He will keep you firm to the end, irreproachable on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful, and by him you were called to fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. That is why I am eager to preach the gospel also to you in Oklahoma City.

Dr. Lorraine S. Brugh
Tonight we meet Jesus at a threshold. This is the last time Jesus will be able to talk openly with his disciples before his death. This passage has been traditionally called the farewell discourse in John's gospel. Jesus knows it is time to begin the goodbye: the disciples are slower to understand what is already happening. Sound familiar?
The lessons tonight mark our crossing the threshold into the 6th week of Easter and also speak of thresholds. Jesus continues to prepare his disciples for that final threshold between them in which Jesus will be removed forever from their sight. And what does he do in the mean time? He patiently continues to teach them what he had been trying to get them to understand all along, and he is probably fully aware that they grasp what he is saying partially at best.
Seniors, did you notice as you crossed the threshold into the chapel tonight that this is that last time you'll be crossing into this place before your college graduation day? Do you understand that? We all find ourselves standing at several thresholds tonight. You can name many of them. Besides the chapel tonight, most of you seniors will walk across the stage in the ARC tomorrow, crossing the threshold of college graduation. Others will watch as your child, sister or friend crosses. Thresholds abound on a night like this; think of the number of times most of you will enter this chapel in comparison with the last 4 years. There are the thresholds of your advisor's office door, your best friends' dorm room, the door you walked out after your last exam, never mind Passtimes. As you crossed the threshold of the chapel's doors this evening, you were already crossing into a passage that will send many of you away from this place.

Random Easter Stuff
Too much depressing news today, and I'm too tired to dig for the links, but these stories are easy to find at the first few blogs in my sidebar. Let's see, turns out torture and abuse were (are?) more or less routine in Iraqi prisons, and the ok for that came down from on high. Nothing new there, but since there won't be any hearings, etc., then there's nothing making easy-to-broadcast news, so the networks revert to Michael Jackson, etc. Turns out most of the Republicans making fanatic pro-life stands on the Shiavo case have a whole bunch of hypocrisy on that issue in their backgrounds (including Bush, Frist and DeLay). Again, nothing new there, Republicans are hypocrites on nearly everything, it seems, but about the only time it is reported, it gets the "but Democrats are just as bad" treatment. As if. There's just so much, on some days, I'm just too overwhelmed to post about any one thing. That's just two of about ten stories I read about today that drained my energy and reminded me just how much the ConservaBorg are fucking up America. Bleh. I will say, though, that Easter today worked out pretty well. Poor Michelle was not feeling well this morning (after being the Easter trooper last night and getting everything done for them while I was falling asleep), but she rebounded by about midday, and we got to see my dad and stepmom. They had some fun things set up for the kids, and the kids ended up with a lot of candy, a little money, and a few cool gifts today. They even behaved well pretty much the whole day, except for Cody throwing an empty laundry basket that hit Daniel accidentally, but no harm done, and he got the clean up the backyard for his trouble, which needed doing anyway.

A blessed Easter
A blessed Easter to all of you, especially those of you who have been baptized or made professions of faith this year. Because of the Little Child factor, I haven't been to an Easter Vigil in a few years, which is too bad, but that's just the way it goes. As a DRE, I used to help run the things for several years, and was deeply immersed in the catechumenate, but that was then, this is now. The most memorable Easter Vigil of recent years was the one which Michael and I attended at St Meinrad Archabbey a few years ago. It began in the dark of night, down in a courtyard, where the fire was sparked and the Paschal Candle lit. The liturgy progressed, back up in the church, through all of the readings, the homily and then....

No passion for Easter Bunny at church show
Children in audience watch as actor in rabbit costume whipped
GLASSPORT, Pa. - First, the Passion of the Christ. Now, the torment of the Easter Bunny? It may not have been as gruesome as Mel Gibson's movie, but many parents and children got upset when a church trying to teach about Jesus' crucifixion performed an Easter show with actors whipping the Easter bunny and breaking eggs. People who attended Saturday's show at Glassport's memorial stadium quoted performers as saying, "There is no Easter bunny," and described the show as being a demonstration of how Jesus was crucified. Melissa Salzmann, who brought her 4-year-old son J.T., said the program was inappropriate for young children. "He was crying and asking me why the bunny was being whipped," Salzmann said. Patty Bickerton, the youth minister at Glassport Assembly of God, said the performance wasn't meant to be offensive. Bickerton portrayed the Easter rabbit and said she tried to act with a tone of irreverence. "The program was for all ages, not just the kids. We wanted to convey that Easter is not just about the Easter bunny, it is about Jesus Christ," Bickerton said.

What is Mathematics? A novel with more questions than answers. Chapter 1 Time for adventure and Easter Sunday The plane from Miami to Santo Domingo had been air born for half an hour. It was packed. It seemed that everybody was going home for Easter. The man next to me was filling out the immigration card. He had a Dominican Republic passport. One of the questions was, "How long will you stay in the Dominican Republic (not to be filled out by residents)?" He wrote in capital letters PARA SIEMPRE, or FOREVER. On my other side sat Ana. She had come from Spain to join me exploring the Dominican Republic for eleven days. Knowing Ana rather well, I knew we were going to explore a lot more than what meets the eye of a normal tourist. Ana was never a distant observer, she would always get involved, for better or for worse, with the surroundings. The passenger on her other side, a rather solid woman, had made innocent conversation with Ana, commented among other things that Easter was early this year. Ana did no need more than this. Now the two ladies were discussing if Easter Sunday fell on irregular dates every year, or if there was a pattern to the madness. The solid lady was of the opinion that the first full moon after 21 March somehow determined the time for Easter, and that the day for Easter Sunday could only be found from almanacs. Ana, on the other hand, said she knew a simple system to calculate Easter Sunday for any year.

How Did Pagan Customs Mix into Christmas and Easter?
It began hundreds of years ago, when the Church changed the Bible. . .
Many modern traditions of Christian holidays do not originate from Christianity itself. These customs are not "harmless" sources of joy, but rather cause invisible spiritual damage to the souls of family members and other loved ones. What is the source of such customs as adorning Christmas trees with lights, decorating with pine branches, holly, mistletoe, and yule logs, or exchanging gifts? Indeed, why is Christmas celebrated in late December, a time that Jesus certainly was not born? And from where did the name "Easter" come, together with the 40-day fast of Lent and the Easter egg? All of these strange customs originated in ancient forms of idol-worship, including the Egyptian cult of Isis, the Syrian and Babylonian cults of Astarte (or "Ishtar"), the Greek cult of Dionysus, the Roman festivals of Saturnalia and the sun, the cults of the Druids in England, and others. Such pagan cults were notorious for practicing witchcraft, forced prostitution, self-mutilation, human sacrifice to false gods, and even burning children alive. In other words, the Church accepted its holiday traditions from ancient Egypt, Babylon, Greece, and Romeenemies of G-d who fought bitterly against His Word and were condemned by such Biblical prophets as Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel for their wickedness.

Traditions of Easter
New and unique and old favorite ways of celebrating Easter in a 21st century fashion that the whole family will enjoy. Menu ideas, baking and candy making, easy decor, attention to the season of spring, visiting shut-ins and more.
Easter, the great feast day meant to celebrate the rising of Jesus Christ from the dead three days after his crucifixion, is the highlight of the Christian calendar. If you are a follower of Christ, you no doubt have many ways of joining your family activities to those of your church in honor of the Resurrection, which offers hope in a life after death for all. Some Catholic families even bring their Easter food to Church for to have it blessed on the Saturday before Easter, to signify their trust in the special feast. But even those who are not avid Church going Christians, and some Christians who would like to engage their families in more global holiday activities are to be reminded that Easter as a seasonal high point can be celebrated by everyone. It is not an accident that Easter happens a few weeks (depending on the full moon and other natural conditions) into spring. Even the earliest pagans celebrated this season of new life and found in it the hope to carry on fore another year. If warmth returned, buds came again to barren looking trees, and crops grew once more after a cold, dark winter, was it not possible, the ancients told themselves, that humans, too, could be promised new life? The entire family, from the youngest toddler to the elders, can enjoy seasonal celebrations of spring and the rising of new life, whether they connect it to the rising of Christ or to the reflowering of nature. The suggestions here cover enjoyable and learning activities in the kitchen, as well as games and activities outdoors and beyond the home, as starting points. Families should always build on their own traditions, thus cultivating memories that nurture the young and feed the older.

By Charles Stanley For too many children today, Easter is solely a time of painting pastel-colored eggs, searching for treasures on an Easter egg hunt, and digging through an Easter basket for chocolate bunnies While these festivities are an enjoyable way for the family to participate in something traditional, they can easily trivialize the Christian meaning of Easter.
One of the most important responsibilities Christian parents have is to teach their children about Jesus Christ. Yet countless children grow up knowing Christ only through what they learn from second-hand sources. The sketchy images these encounters with God imprint on their minds can range anywhere from a drill sergeant to . . . well, the Easter bunny. In order for children to digest the authentic Easter message, Christ’s sacrificial death on a cross, they must have a context in which to put the person of Jesus Christ. When the Gospel is glossed over by lighthearted scenarios that don’t mirror real life, children can be led into thinking Christianity amounts only to an untainted notion of perfectionism. The real story–a story about tarnished and degenerate souls who were saved by Christ’s unconditional love, redeemed by the miracle of His death, and blessed with a living hope for all eternity–is as relevant to children today as it always has been. The story never changes, but, in a modern context, the way we tell it does.

Text from Luke 11:1-13
Easter V
1. While Jesus was praying, one of the disciples made a request (vs.1) but vs. 5 says Jesus addressed them , more than one. 2. This is the only instance in the Gospels of a request to Jesus for teaching people. And vs. 1 tells us that the Baptist taught His disciples. 3. The Lord's Prayer was spoken by Jesus one year earlier at Mt. 6:9-13. That was in Galilee. This second time in Lk. 11 occurred very likely in Judea. This is a shorter form of the Lord's Prayer. 4. Jesus begins with the word "Father" (vs. 2) and ends with the same word (vs. 13). Jesus spoke often of His Father all the way from Lk. 2:49 to Lk. 23:43. The NT is full of the word "Father". Only Christians, those who believe in Christ, address God as "Father". Muslims and Jews do not use the word. 5. Only Lutherans, on the basis of the Bible, believe that the Word and the Sacraments are means of grace, ways by which God comes to us. For example Rom. 10:17; I Pet. 1:23: Eph. 5:26; Mt. 26:28. Prayer is not called a means of grace. At Lk. 8:11 Jesus said: "The seed is the Word." He did not say: "The seed is prayer." The means of grace bring us forgiveness of sins and salvation. Prayer is an exercise of faith, a response of the Christian to God. Parents feed their children daily bread. The children respond by speaking to their parents. 6. Because the Lord's Prayer is the model prayer in which Jesus enumerates all our needs, Luther made it one of the chief parts of both the Small and the Large Catechism. Before you preach on Luke 11 read again pp. 17-20 in the Russian Lutheran Catechism. At Lk. 11:2 the better manuscripts of the NT do not include the third petition. Evidently, Jesus taught the Lord's Prayer often but did not always use the same form. Prayer is not rigid and mechanical. In the Lord's Prayer Jesus teaches us what we should pray for. Vss. 5-13 tell us how we are to pray.
