Rasmus refills the Triton TIMS with a dewar of liquid nitrogen.. Modern laboratory facilities are an integral part of earth science research. The Department of Earth Sciences at Dartmouth College is well equipped, with a variety of modern research facilities, including: a variety of thermal ionization and gas source mass spectrometers, inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometers and optical emission spectroscopy, gas and liquid chromatographs, a gas chromatograph-isotope ratio mass spectrometer, a confocal Raman microprobe, infrared spectrometer, and research-grade petrographic microscopes. These instruments and others are described in descriptions of individual laboratories below. The department is also equipped with general user computer labs for remote sensing, GIS and modeling, and college-supported general user facilities such as X-ray diffraction, rock cutting, scanning and transmission electron microscopy. The Earth Sciences Department is also located proximal to the Departments of Physics Chemistry , and Geography , and the Environmental Studies Program , each of which offers extensive analytical facilities available for general use.

http://www.ess.washington.edu/tsunami/
Welcome to Tsunami! Tsunami! was originally a World-Wide Web site that had been developed to provide general information about tsunamis. Much of the site and its original information is now somewhat out of date, and in fact the site is currently undergoing overhaul. Due to the increased interest following the recent Asian tsunami, we have provided links to off-site information below. We have also put together an image (viewable to the right by clicking on it) that illustrates the basic differences between tsunamis and "regular" wind-generated waves. The old site and its information can be accessed by following the link near the bottom of the page. Current Links http://pubs.usgs.gov/circ/c1187/
Surviving a Tsunami - Lessons from Chile, Hawaii, and Japan (If you read nothing else, read this).
This is a USGS publication (available online) that details how to survive a tsunami. It was based on personal accounts related to the tsunami generated by the 1960 magnitude-9.5 earthquake in Chile. http://www.pmel.noaa.gov/tsunami-hazard/links.htm

Graphic by: Steven E. Hall The Online Meteorology Guide is a collection of web-based instructional modules that use multimedia technology and the dynamic capabilities of the web. These resources incorporate text, colorful diagrams, animations, computer simulations, audio and video to introduce fundamental concepts in the atmospheric sciences. Selected pages link to (or will soon link to) relevant classroom activities and current weather products to reinforce topics discussed in the modules and allow the user to apply what has been learned to real-time weather data. Available modules include: Modules

    GRADUATE PROGRAM
The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences offers a program leading to the degree of Master of Arts in Earth Science. Graduate students are offered a unique opportunity for accelerated and personalized instruction, with an emphasis on research. The research opportunities cover the broad and overlapping fields of Earth Science and Environmental Science. Some of our M.A. students continue their education for a Ph.D. degree at another institution whereas for others the M.A. is the terminal degree. The Wesleyan program includes options for students who have an insufficient undergraduate background in Earth Science, due either to a decision to enter the discipline at a late stage or to limited opportunities in an undergraduate program.
