Homework Help: Science: Earth: Atmosphere
You've probably already heard how humans are ruining the Earth's atmosphere, but what exactly is the atmosphere? The atmosphere is a layer of air the surrounds the Earth's surface. It includes mostly nitrogen, and other common gases such as oxygen, water vapor, and carbon dioxide. The atmosphere is divided into five sub-layers. They are the Troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere, thermosphere, and exosphere. We will talk about them later on this page. The atmosphere also contains atmospheric pressure. Atmospheric pressure is the weight of the atmosphere itself. Air still has weight, even though it may seem very light. The atmosphere goes up to about 310 miles from the Earth's surface. Therefore, you can just imagine how much atmospheric pressure we receive. For example, the air weighs about fifteen pounds on every square inch of your body. If you don't like moisture, then be happy for atmospheric pressure. Atmospheric pressure decreases the amount of moisture in the air because it's lighter than air. Unfortunately, atmospheric pressure is also the reason why your ears pop when you go take off or land while on an airplane.

Bill Nye the Science Guy makes science fun. Really! Dr. Matrix Science Web World: Junior Scientists is one of the best overall sites you will find. Groovy graphics, too. Explore Science is a virtual science lab devoted to scientific theory. Shockwave needed. Mad Scientist Network connects you to the experts. Questions submitted must be science related and are usually answered within seven days. There is a searchable archive that dates back to 1995. Science Friday Kids' Connection is one of the coolest science sites. Hosted by National Public Radio, here you can perform online experiments to learn about everything from gravity to plastic, read about emerging diseases, insects, and just about anything else you can think of. The Science Learning Network "explores how telecomputing can support inquiry-based science education." Sounds boring, right? It isn't, though. I wonder who's eye they're about to cut open there? Scientific American: Ask the Experts will answer your questions by email. The site also contains archives of information about astronomy, biology, chemistry, computer science, environmental science, geology, math, medicine, and physics.

Homework Helper These questions were sent in by students wanting help with school reports or speeches. Look here for answers to your questions on aliens or UFOs. Many students have written back afterwards to tell us they got an "A." 1. Question: I am wanting to find out what kind of work I can get into regarding this topic or UFOs. I am extremely interested and have read a lot about abductions including personal UFO sightings. Answer: The best thing to do is to get good grades in science or math. Then you can go into scientific research for private industry, NASA, etc. You can pursue subjects such as aviation, astronomy, physics, etc. In the next 10 years, there will be people stationed year-round in space doing regular jobs. Companies on Earth will have to provide them with all their food, clothing, household and medical needs in a space environment. In 20 years, people will be stationed on different planets or their moons and will be traveling beyond our universe. The possibilities are just beginning to open up. 2. Question: I am 15. I have always wondered about aliens and I have always believed that they are here even though I haven't had any experiences to prove it yet. But I was wondering, do you see any possible findings of alien life soon Are you searching now And how do you search? Do you just sit outside and look up in the sky? I am very curious. Please answer these question s for me.

Searching NASA If you're like most kids, your teacher gives you homework. Chances are you've spent a lot of time searching the World Wide Web to look for information to help you with your homework. Sometimes you can find the information you need without spending too much time searching. But other times it seems like you're on the computer for hours and NEVER find what you're looking for. How frustrating! One way to find what you're looking for is to learn a few things about how to do a search. Luckily, searching NASA is pretty easy. If you go to
