Poison Prevention Tips
The Cincinnati Drug and Poison Information Center offers the following tips which should be followed daily to prevent poisoning. For additional information on preventing poisonings in the home, please see our new Safety House
  • All medications, whether prescription or over-the-counter, should have child-proof caps and be kept out of reach of children. If possible, put a lock or safety latch on your medicine cabinet.
  • Prescription medications aren't the only thing in your bathroom that can be harmful to your children. Hair and skin products can also be dangerous if swallowed or inhaled. Keep them out of small children's reach.
  • The medicine cabinet isn't the only place children find drugs. Many kids get them from their mother's purses. If you carry medications in your purse, make sure they have child-resistant closures.
  • Never transfer prescription medications to other containers. You may forget what they are and the prescribed dosage. Keep all prescription medicines in original containers.

Show Me More Information Ignore This Warning RxDiversion Pharmaceutical Diversion Education About Commander Burke The Scope of the Rx Abuse Problem Health Care Professionals ... Drug Diversion Control in Health Facilities Welcome to RxDiversion.com! Pharmaceutical Diversion Education is designed to assist a wide range of the population in understanding the potential abuse and addiction that can be associated with prescription medication. Year after year, Drug Enforcement Administration statistics indicate that pharmaceuticals are almost 30% of the overall drug problem in the United States, running a close second only to cocaine abuse. However, until recently, law enforcement, health care professionals, and the general public have placed little emphasis on this huge problem. The illegal diversion of prescription drugs occurs in a variety of ways, by all segments of our population, in all neighborhoods, and in all workplaces. Its abuse is often overlooked by the thinking that if a doctor prescribes the drug, and a pharmacist dispenses the medication, it can’t be abused. Understanding that the top prescription drugs of abuse are every bit as addictive, abused, and valuable as illicit drugs, is sometimes difficult to comprehend. Pharmaceutical Diversion Education (PDE) can offer extensive education in the area of prescription drug abuse. PDE offers training for health care professionals and their staff, law enforcement, and anyone responsible for reducing the incidents of drug abuse in the workplace. Private consulting work is also available in these same areas. PDE not only offers education on the problems of prescription drug abuse, but can help you identify the problems, and formulate prevention programs.

113. HIV Prevention & Injecting Drug Use
Issues related to HIV prevention and people who inject drugs.
http://www.avert.org/druguse.htm
search avert.org Globally, sex between men and women is by far the most common way of passing on HIV. But a second transmission route drives the epidemic in many, if not most, countries outside Africa. That is transmission among men and women who inject drugs. Injection of any sort is an even more efficient way of spreading HIV than sexual intercourse. Since injecting drug users are often linked in tight networks and commonly share injecting equipment with other people without cleaning it, HIV can spread very rapidly in these populations. Also, like other sexually active people, people who inject drugs may acquire HIV infection through their sexual partners if they have unprotected sex.
How many people are injecting drug users?
Because injecting drug use is illegal in most countries, it is hard to know exactly how many people inject drugs and how many share their equipment. It is even harder to know how many are infected with HIV. Whilst precise figures may be hard to come by, it is clear that HIV can explode through drug-using populations with remarkable speed and can stabilise at very high levels. 117. WHAT IS ADVENTIST YOUTH TO YOUTH?
Sponsored by the Institute for prevention of Addictions, Adventist Youth to Youth is a positive peer prevention program which uses local clubs led by youth supported by adult sponsors to reach other youth and children with a drugfree living message
http://www.andrews.edu/IPA/y2y/ay2ywhat.html
ADVENTIST YOUTH TO YOUTH
WHAT IS ADVENTIST YOUTH TO YOUTH?
BACKGROUND: The Start of Youth to Youth.
Youth to Youth originated in Columbus, Ohio, as a high school program in 1982. Its goal was to support and encourage teens to be drug-free. By 1984, the program had received much attention and an overwhelming number of requests for help from all over the country. In response, the First National Youth to Youth Conference was developed. The annual conference in Ohio soon spread to regional conferences in California, Idaho, Ohio, and New York, as well as several countries around the world. Adventist Youth to Youth was first tested in the North American continent at the February, 1988 "Fly High Naturally" Conference held in the southeastern U.S. That conference was such a success that it led to further conferences throughout North America. In February, 1990 the North American Adventist church decided to adopt Adventist Youth to Youth as the official prevention program for the 1990s. A collegiate version was launched in 1992. Young adult leaders now provide the major administrative roles for these conferences. The program has been successfully adopted in a number of high schools where sufficient youth and adults have been trained in the program. Most recently the program has been extended to youth leadership development overseas, starting in the former U.S.S.R. in 1992.
SO WHAT IS ADVENTIST YOUTH TO YOUTH?

118. Preventing Cruelty To KFC Chickens Petition
A petition against Ohio State University from trying to determine the effects of drug abuse in humans who are HIVpositive by injecting cats with the feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) and then giving them doses of methamphetamine. According to experts, FIV is a poor model for HIV and the findings of this cruel experiment probably would be irrelevant to humans with HIV.

Preventing Cruelty to KFC Chickens
View Current Signatures Sign the Petition To: PETA It came to my attention not long ago of the Cruelty that KFC was inflicting on their chickens. It made me sick to think this was happening, and I have put this petition together to help stop this horrendous cruelty from continuing to happen.
A worker from the Tyson Plant in Grannis, Ark. reported these conditions to the People for the Ethical Treatment to Animals (PETA). They have now taken up this case as the one of most concern, and are doing everything in their power to stop this from happening.
These chickens suffer a lot. These birds are killed in the most un-humane ways, and may people forget that just like us, they can feel pain.
They can be blown apart by dry ice bombs and intentionally scolded to death in hundreds, let alone having their legs broken to fit into shackles.
Tyson foods is the top supplier of chicken to KFC, therefore they are being targeted firstly, but the aim is to eventually have laws passed against such treatment.
Their first request is to have electrical stunning and throat slicing replaced with gas killing, as this is far less painful and stressful for the chickens.
