Community Schools
After School Programs After School Programs at Community Schools Through extended day programming, our community schools provide a myriad of after-school programs and services that enrich and supplement what children learn during the day. Through arts, recreation, socialization, leadership and educational activities, we ensure that each student has an opportunity to grow, broaden skills and acquire new ways of seeing the world. Click here to read our fact sheet on the importance of after-school programs. Academic Support
  • Our elementary schools have adopted two major literacy enrichment curricula Foundations (Grades K-3) and KidzLit (Grades 4-5) that integrate quality children's literature with engaging and enjoyable activities including creative writing and visual and dramatic arts. These activities help to build children's literacy skills while also fostering development of social skills, self-esteem and a sense of community. These programs support the New York State Standards in English Language Arts.
Programs for students in upper level grades include peer math tutoring, mentoring, Saturday Reading Clubs, Homework Help, Accelerated High School Exam Prep, Book and Science Clubs and English as a Second Language classes.

St. Joseph's College Clubs, Organizations and Societies -
St. Joseph's encourages the participation and growth of student organizations. Each club is represented in the Student Senate by one of its members to ensure new ideas and the right to share opinions will not be overlooked. As of this year, St. Joseph's students have formed the following clubs and organizations: Accounting/Business Society: Business and Accounting majors, or any student interested in the Business or Accounting field interested in listening to guest speakers and enjoy forums discussing related topics. The Accounting/Business Society co-sponsored the Career Fair at St. Joseph’s, and has their own Honor Society, Delta Mu Delta. ACHE: Adult and Professional Education organization concerning those who are pursuing a career or have an interest in the health care profession. Art Club: The purpose is to broaden the students’ horizon in the Fine Arts. They host a pumpkin-carving contest during Halloween and an Annual Art Show that displays various types of artwork. There is no art ability needed, just a creative and open mind! The Art Club.

    ASDU (Student Government)
The primary vehicle through which students plan and provide activities, distribute activity funds, and represent themselves to the University's administration and broader community is ASDU the Associated Students of Dominican University. ASDU is the student association and the student government body. As such, it reflects the diversity of the students at Dominican. The ASDU Senate is composed of representatives from the three major segments of students: the traditional students (those under age 24); the non-traditional students (those students whose education has been interrupted and/or who are over age 24); Pathways students; and graduate students. There is some overlapping of these groups. The Director of Campus Life advises ASDU. The constitution that guides ASDU can be obtained in the Student Development Office. The Senate consists of the six executive officers (president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer, program director and community outreach director); two representatives from each class; one representative from each of the three Residence Halls; two graduate student representatives; two re-entry student representatives; and two off-campus student representatives.
