Hi Folks, Kim's Drama Blog Well, here we are again. Finally a brief respite from my hectic existence of late! Although I do have 2 conference engagements in the next 10 days - one of those is going to be a little experiment in trying to attend a session at the Drama Australia national conference in Canberra (details below ) - Kylie Readman and Jo Wise have kindly agreed to try a virtual hook-up with their Discussion Pit on Drama and Technology. Hopefully it will be a chance to learn something about engaging in real time interactions - maybe even specific to Drama. The other conference I'm doing is a roundtable discussion at the Educational Computing Association of WA - where I'll be raising some issues related to Drama and Education in a digital context. I presented a session at the WA Dept of Education and Training Connected Learning conference on Thursday Sept 23... about Digital Pretext and Process Drama... needless to say there was only one person in the room besides myself who really knew what I was talking about... but an interesting development came about when a respected Computing teacher colleague spoke to me afterwards about a project he is running online to teach computer programming - he said to me that he " realised how much more powerful his project would be if he took more time at the outset to engage in Drama and develop roles " - chalk one up for Drama Education!

    Wickham Theatre
A versatile teaching, performance and research facility As one of the best equipped Studio Theatres at British University, the Wickham Theatre, named after Professor Glynne Wickham, founder of the Department and of University Theatre Studies in this country, is used for a wide range of activities.
    Student Performances
The exploration of live performance is an important part of the way we approach the understanding of theatre. Students in all years engage in performances exploring forms and expressions in several theatrical traditions including experimental contemporary practice.
    Professional Performances
The Theatre is home to a regular programme of visiting performers and companies working at the forefront of live performance practice internationally.
    Research
The Theatre is also used extensively for research projects in a range of forms and media. One example is its use for the Reconstruction of a Jacobean Playhouse Developed by Professor Martin White and Theatre Designer Jennie Norman from original drawings by the celebrated Jacobean architect, Inigo Jones, a full-scale reconstruction of a 17th century Jacobean indoor playhouse, lit by candles, provides a venue for an ongoing research project, public performances, a programme of teaching, and public lectures.

    Our Mission
Our Philosophy To assist language arts teachers in providing exciting, hands-on, skill intensive activities for the language arts classroom. We believe the degree of language competence that a student achieves is directly related to the student's level of involvement in the activity. For decades educators have known that using hands-on activities is a more efficient teaching method than theoretical discussion. A woodshop instructor attempting to teach students the skills involved in building a table without allowing the students to use of rulers, hammers, and saws is destined to fail.

    EMPLOYMENT
Bigfoot Theatre Company train and employ actors as educators. We also employ dancers, singers, circus specialists, physical theatre actors, filmmakers and poets! But before you work with us it is essential that you demonstrate that you are serious about helping children, and that you are willing to put in time and effort in developing your craft as a teacher, just as much as you do as a performer, as we feel the two go hand in hand. Facilitating is not easy. As a facilitator you are accountable. You must always look to better yourself and face challenges head on to really appreciate the process of facilitating. Just as you are always learning as an performer you will always be learning as a facilitator. Before you work for Bigfoot you must fill out an application form detailing your experience, if any, along with two references. You will then attend an interview and demonstrate a creative workshop lesson plan. After the interview process you may be invited onto a two-day selection workshop where you can demonstrate your facilitating skills to full effect. Following that you will be asked to attend two shadow workshops within schools where you will participate with an existing Bigfoot facilitator and a Bigfoot assessor. During this time you will be CRB checked. Next Out of School Drama Clubs PSHE Drama Workshops Drama Workshops ... Film Workshops
