The revision of Reading Greek is well under way. All members of the sub-committee overseeing it have commented in detail on draft material, and a meeting was held in Manchester in June. It is expected that Sections 1-8, containing the bulk of the teaching material, will be in near-final draft by Christmas. Three representatives will shortly be meeting CUP to discuss the design of the new larger-format volumes. Sales of titles in the Reading Greek series have remained buoyant. The Greeks all around us architecture project for primary schools has already received wide publicity in the north-eastern press, and is poised for wider circulation.

Please note: we do vet each site before recommending a visit, and all postings are subject to the editorial discretion of the Poetry Society. Preserving Southern California's Steamship Heritage
Welcome aboard,
It's an exciting time for the S.S. Catalina and for the effort to save her.
For 51 years the Catalina carried passengers to Santa Catalina Island, earning herself not only a unique place in maritime history, but also in the hearts of millions of happy travelers. Now she needs help, and an intriguing twist of fate may help provide it.
The S.S. Catalina Preservation Association (SSCPA), a multi-national, not-for-profit corporation, has been working since 1999 to rescue, restore, preserve, and interpret the Catalina , the last ship of her kind on the West Coast. To achieve these goals we offer public presentations on both sides of the border, including lectures, seminars, and educational programs. We have also been in talks with the Los Angeles Harbor Commission, who has expressed an interest in using the Catalina as a possible part of their waterfront restoration project. Retired from passenger service in 1975, she was taken to Ensenada, Mexico in 1985 and began the first of several failed business ventures. Eventually her owners abandoned her and after several years of neglect she slowly settled to the bottom of the harbor, resting half-submerged in about 20 feet of water. Recently the Port of Ensenada finished their new World Cruise Port, and the S.S.

" CENTURY CITY" DRAMATIZES FUTURE ISSUES Is your clone your child or your twin? Or is it your property? If so, what are your rights and responsibilities? These and other ethical, social, and legal conflicts arising from new technologiessuch as genetic enhancement and antiaging therapiesare tackled on CENTURY CITY, a drama set in 2030 that recently debuted in the United States on the CBS television network. Media-technology futurist John Underkoffler, formerly with MIT's Tangible Media Group, served as an adviser for the program. While few special effects were created for the limited-run series (only nine episodes were ordered), highlights included the holographic-enhanced computer games and communications devices in the fictional law firm's conference room, reminiscent of Underkoffler's work with laser-based optical and holographic layouts and projection infrastructures, such as his "Illuminating Light" and "Luminous Room" optoelectronics projects. Underkoffler also provided science and technology advice for the feature films MINORITY REPORT (2002) and HULK (2003), according to his biography on the Internet Movie Database http://www.imdb.com.
