The Supreme Court, which opens each session by saying ‘God save the United States and this honorable Court,’ has affirmed time and again that such official acknowledgments of our Nation’s religious heritage, foundation, and character are constitutional. ATTORNEY GENERAL ASHCROFT CHALLENGES MEN
TO TAKE THE PLEDGE TO DEFEAT DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
WASHINGTON, D.C.
- Attorney General John Ashcroft today announced the release of a Justice Department-sponsored public service announcement (PSA) challenging men from all walks of life to help join the fight in eliminating domestic violence. The 30 second and 15 second PSAs are designed to air during the month of October commemorating “Domestic Violence Awareness Month,” although additional versions of the PSA without the tagline noting October’s designation are also being made available to run past this month. “Domestic violence is wrong and destroys the lives of far too many women and children. I’m challenging men across America to take the pledge against domestic violence. We must work together to eliminate the horrific cycle of violence,” said Attorney General John Ashcroft. “This public service announcement demonstrates the Bush Administration’s unceasing commitment to keep families safe, hold offenders accountable, and bring communities together in our ongoing efforts to end domestic violence.” “When domestic violence is ignored, thousands of women and their families’ lives are at risk,” said Office on Violence Against Women Director Diane M. Stuart. “Women and their families deserve to live safe and healthy lives, free of violence. We encourage everyone to support this effort.”

A utonomy versus E xtreme Manipulation What a vast area....How much there is to be discovered about our own ability to become and remain autonomous, as well as how we can be manipulated into giving up our autonomy without ever sensing it slipping away. Manipulation is endemic in our social environment; extreme levels of manipulation affect more people than anyone realizes....Preliminary surveys indicate that 85 to 90% of Americans are affected either directly or indirectly by extremely manipulative relationships and/or groups. Why does this go unnoticed? Much of the reason is that at the onset, manipulation seems normal. It slowly builds into the levels which are so damaging, but each manipulative tactic and action taken by itself does not seem so harmful. The reality is, extreme manipulation is like the normal process of influence on a steroid overdose.

General Information About Domestic Violence
How 'domestic violence' is defined Disagreements develop from time to time in relationships. Domestic violence is not a disagreement. Domestic violence encompasses a wide range of acts committed by one partner against another in an intimate relationship. This may occur in a variety of relationships: married, separated, divorced, dating, heterosexual, gay or lesbian. Violence of a particularly injurious nature is primarily perpetrated by men against women. Domestic violence is a pattern of behaviors, some causing physical injury, others not, some criminal, others not, but all psychologically damaging. Frequently, domestic violence includes threats of violence, threats of suicide, or threats to take children from the abused person. It may also include breaking objects, hurting pets, yelling, driving recklessly to endanger or scare the abused person, isolating family members from others, and controlling resources like money, vehicles, credit, and time. The goal of an abusive person is to establish and maintain control over his or her partner

Welcome to the 11th Judicial
District Attorney General's Office
Greetings:
I am pleased to welcome you to the 11th Judicial District World Wide Web Site. As your District Attorney General one of my goals is to make our judicial system more understandable and more accessible to all citizens.
The site is designed specifically to be law enforcement and victim-friendly. In helping law enforcement officers, victims, and witnesses understand the criminal laws and court procedures that affect their cases and their lives, we hope to make progress toward improving the delivery of services and the quality of justice in our part of Tennessee.
I have also included some of my favorite Law Enforcement links. These are sites where people interested in crime and criminal justice issues can go that are helpful, interesting, and sometimes even intriguing. Thanks for visiting, and enjoy your stay.
