Saban confident in Brown DAVIE · Rookie running backs Carnell Williams and Ronnie Brown were often compared during their years together in the Auburn backfield. Saban still confident in Brown POLL: Do you think the criticism of Ronnie Brown is fair? Post-game analysis Huh? The Jets quarterback, Chad Pennington, cannot throw more than 10 yards past the line of scrimmage without his throws beginning to resemble windblown end-over-end punts. Yet the Dolphins' defensive backs were playing so far off the receivers, that the one distance he COULD throw went unchallenged, and he continually found his wideouts Laveranues Coles, Justin McCareins and Wayne Chrebet on a variety of short buttonhook and out patterns. It was another water-torture loss to Pennington's Jets (the Jets have won 12 of their past 15 games against the Dolphins). Grizzly Bears: C oming Soon!
Join us in the Selkirk Mountains as we work with researchers and the residents of Boundary County, Idaho to manage grizzly bears living in their midst. The small population of grizzly bears is one of the last remnant populations living in the lower 48. The Department of Idaho Fish and Game has a mandate to protect and preserve them. Yet, this mandate impacts not only the bears but also the people of Boundary County. Wildlife conservation is complicated and there are no simple answers. Can people and grizzly bears share the same habitat? How dangerious are they? Are they a threat to livestock? How should the bears be managed? Is there a middle ground that protects the grizzlies and allows the people of Boundary County to continue their way of life? Join us this September as we examine these and other questions. Researcher Updates! Find out what Tamara, Lindsay, Katie, and Caryn have been doing since we last saw them.

DOLPHINS I. BIOLOGY AND NATURAL HISTORY
All dolphins are toothed whales belonging to the sub-order, odontocetes , of the order cetacea (see section on humpback whales for more information). As a group, dolphins are often referred to as "small" cetaceans, even though some of them are quite large, attaining lengths of over 20 feet. In addition, although the terms dolphins and porpoises are often used interchangeably, they really refer to two different types of animals.
Porpoises belong to the family Phocoenidae . They are generally smaller and more robust species. Most attain about 5-7 feet in length. Porpoises have no distinct beak, or rostrum . Their foreheads slope almost uniformly to the tip of their snout, and their teeth are spade-like in shape. The family Phocoenidae is rather small, and consists of only six members. There are no porpoises found in Hawaiian waters.
Dolphins belong to the family Delphinidae . Dolphins possess a distinct beak. Their teeth are conical in shape. Most species of dolphins are larger than porpoises, with the males usually being larger than the females. The family Delphinidae is the largest and most diverse family of the cetacean order and includes 26 living species. Several species of dolphins are found in Hawaiian waters.
Below is the biological classification for the common dolphin: Kingdom Anamalia Phylum Cordata (vertebrates) Class Mammalia Order Cetacea Sub-order Odontoceti Family Delphinidae Genus Delphinus

Project Delphis Dolphin Cognition Research
Each year hundreds of thousands of dolphins die from driftnet and purse seine fishing, from being harpooned, from being shot as crab bait, and from pollution. Although it is already known that dolphins are large-brained, intelligent, social creatures, humans continue to slaughter these amazing mammals at an enormous rate.
Don White
, President of Earthtrust, has long seen the need to establish scientific evidence that would shed light on the issue of dolphin intelligence. Project Delphis was created in 1985 by Don and by pioneer dolphin advocate Dexter Cate as an innovative and positive project to investigate and assess dolphin cognition. It seeks to bring about a clearer understanding of these friendly mammals, to publish the significant discoveries in the scientific literature, and to share the information with the world at large. It is Earthtrust's profound hope that new perceptions of dolphin intelligence will motivate humans to respect and protect these friendly people of the sea

Where the Wild Things are The rural Waianae Coast of Oahu, Hawaii, offers many different kinds of marine life including the best watching of dolphins, whales, turtles, tropical fish, spotted eagle rays, sponges, and coral reef inhabitants to name a few. The Waianae Range is on the west coast of Oahu, Hawaii. It is largely shielded from the rains brought into the islands by the Northeasterly bearing trade winds by its neighbor, Koolau Volcano. This makes Waianae much drier than the Koolaus, particularly on its westward (leeward) slopes. This dryness keeps runoff to a minimum and thus, some of the clearest water in Hawaii is found at the beaches of the Waianae coast. This area is also reputed to have the most extensive coral reefs and marine life in the Hawaiian Islands. It's not surprising then that there is fascinating marine life all along the Leeward Coast. The Northwestern tip, at Ka'ena Point appears to be a magnet for marine mammals. We are currently conducting research to determine the extent of this phenomenon. Click on the links below to learn more about some of the creatures we have become quite friendly with.

MIAMI DOLPHINS Saban: Brown is not a bust
Dolphins coach Nick Saban said rookie running back Ronnie Brown's meager production in the first two games is due to a variety of factors.
BY ARMANDO SALGUERO, asalguero@herald.com
Nick Saban does not think Ronnie Brown is a bust. ''I'm not disappointed. I'm not upset. I'm not angry. I'm not tired of Ronnie Brown. I'm not nothing,'' Saban said Monday afternoon. ``He wants to do well, and he's working hard to do well.
